"I'll be working late today love, could you maybe cook dinner for me?" I say to Draco as we're sitting at the wooden dinner table, eating some eggs on toast for breakfast.
"I can't, I'll be at the club until late." He says, not looking up but keeping his gaze focussed on his newspaper. "Couldn't you come home a little bit earlier?" I say softly, trying to not anger him.
"Can't you just get a fucking house elf?" He seethes through his teeth; I immediately focus my gaze on my plate as his eyes are full of anger.
"Fine then, I'll do it myself." I snap; I can see him put down the newspaper. "Why are you so against it anyway? They're useless little things."
"I don't want to have this argument again Draco, you know bloody well why I don't want them." He shrugs his shoulders as I look up to meet his eyes, "They don't have feelings or anything. They like to do their work."
"That's not what the house elves at your manor said." I whisper softly, hoping he won't hear me, but of course he did. "Which ones? They'll regret it."
"Draco shut it! Don't be cruel." I say harshly, "Why the fuck do you have to be so difficult sometimes. I stand up and put my empty plate in the sink, quickly washing it off and turning around to face Draco.
"I'm off to work, I'll see you tonight." I walk out into the hallway, putting on my heels, grabbing my handbag and cloak. "Emilia, please-" I hear him say behind me but I apperate anyway.
Work was tiring, I was a judge in the courtrooms along with 24 other witches and wizards. When arriving at the Ministry I used my wand to quickly change into the plum coloured robes. The silver W embroidered on them.
Did I absolutely hate these robes? Yes.
Are they comfortable as hell? You bet your sweet arse they are.
After a long day of court hearings, I was finally done at 7PM. I was dreading to go home to cook, it was the last thing I wanted to do. I could just dump my work clothes and eat out or quickly visit my parents to grab a bite there.
I quickly made my way out of the ministry and apparated home, a warm smell washed over me. That's weird, Draco is still at his Investing Club meeting. I made my way into the house hearing sounds coming from the kitchen, I quickly took my wand out my bun. My hair falling loosely on my shoulders as I stood ready to attack whoever was intruding.
I quickly turned into the kitchen, wand stretched out in front of me only to face Draco, standing there in the kitchen in front of the stove. "Bloody hell Draco, you startled me."
He laughs softly as he lowers his wand which he was using to chop up some vegetables. "Calm down love, it's just me. I saw how upset you were and decided to do cook up some dinner."
I jump up a counter, watching him cook. "Thank you, that's really nice of you." He laughs as he turns to me, planting a soft kiss on my lips. "You do it every single day so I thought it couldn't be that hard right?"
After eating Draco's cottage pie I was absolutely stuffed, we were sitting in the drawing room reading quietly with some soft music on when an owl scratched on the window.
I quickly made my way over to the window; I immediately recognized the owl as Lydia's. "It's a bit late to be sending out letters, isn't it?" Draco mumbles, walking over to me to sneak a peek at the letter.
I squeal loudly as I read the contents, "They're engaged!" A wide smile finds its way on my face quickly as I start crying. "What's wrong?" Draco says quickly, wrapping his arm around me protectively.
"Nothing, I'm just so happy for them. They're halfway across the world and living their best life. I just miss them so much." Draco presses a kiss to my forehead, "We'll see them soon Em, don't worry."
"I'm going to Theo's for a bit, he's invited me over for a whiskey." I can't help but roll my eyes, "He's a dick." I mumble softly, Draco tightly grips my hands. "And he's a great investor Em. I need him on my side."
Draco walks over to the fireplace, "I'll be back before you fall asleep. See you in a bit my love." He kisses my hand softly before releasing it. He grabs a hand full of floo powder and releases it into the fireplace, yelling the address of Theodore's house.
He always left late in the evening, promising to be back in time but he never did. He woke me up though, every single time. Stumbling through the house loudly reeking of whiskey and cigars.
I knew I couldn't say anything about it, he was earning our keep. Saving for a bigger house, though he barely had to do any work for it. He spent his days drinking and smoking, convincing elders to invest in the same things as him.
Some days he'd be at the ministry, just like his father. Talking to all the influential people, convincing them to not pass certain laws or to pass laws that were in his favour.
He was turning out to be just like his father, just a tad bit kinder.
I put down my book and walked towards the kitchen. The sink still full of dishes from our dinner. I waved my wand and they started cleaning themselves. I grab a cigarette and jump up on a counter watching the dishes.
I guess feeling lonely is a part of growing up as well. I'm working by day and Draco by night. We're always missing out on each other, maybe I needed another companion. I'll ask Draco tomorrow.
I've always wanted a cat anyways.
(I'm already working on the sequel lmao, it's not gonna be about them anymore tho. But the kids are gonna be real troublemakers 👀)
