"Miss L/N?" The intercom buzzed, and I instantly recognized the receptionists voice.
I skipped over to where the speaker was placed by our front door, holding down the shiny black button so that my response could be heard on the other end. "Yup!" I began, so that my presence wasn't overlooked. "What's up?"
"There's a... man... down here, looking for you. He seems a bit, uhm, inebriated. He says he knows you from work?"
I racked my brain a bit, wondering if I'd accidentally invited someone over recently, to which I concluded that I had not.
"That's odd. I'm not expecting anyone, can you get a name?" I asked the sweet girl, knowing that she had been hired only a couple weeks ago and that this was probably causing her quite a bit of grief.
"Yes ma'am..." She stepped away from the speaking system for a moment. "He says it's Takami. He's definitely drunk, should I just send him away?"
I sighed, pinching my temple as I knew exactly who the drunk idiot requesting entry into my apartment was. I let an exasperated and audible sigh leave my mouth. "Nope. Send him on up. Sorry about this." I told the girl.
"No worries! I'll escort him so he doesn't get lost." She said, and I could hear her smile echoing through her voice.
I had so many questions, almost all of which included how he knew where I lived. Others entailed why exactly he was so noticeably drunk at 3pm, and one of which that made me question myself as to why exactly I was allowing him up into my living space in such a state. Though, I inevitably brushed the last one off as pity. I quickly skidded back to my room, knowing that the pajamas I was wearing were far to thin and far too loose to be seen in by not only our receptionist, but also my... coworker?
Just as I heaved the final pull to get my bottoms all the way up to my hips, the doorbell chimed. I groaned, not exactly excited to come face to face with a particularly wasted blond. I swung open the door, expecting to see a Hawks that was half asleep, practically tripping over his own feet, and stumbling over his words. Instead, I was greeted by an extremely smiley and giggling Keigo, his hand firmly clutched onto the stems of a bouquet of flowers.
His head whipped around to face my door, his eyes lighting up as soon as they landed on me. "Y/N!!" The giddy boy exclaimed, launching himself in my direction.
"Hawks, what are you-"
He cut me off. "I am piss drunk right now but-" his gaze went from my eyes to the seemingly cozy looking couch that laid in the living room behind me.
"Sofaaaaaa~!" Hawks shouted once again, bounding right past me, through the door way, before finally taking an upwards dive onto said sofa. I sighed, knowing he was now officially left in my care, and that I'd have to look after him for the rest of the day, or at least until he was sober enough to form coherent thoughts.
I quickly turned back around to the sweet receptionist, thanking her for making sure the idiot got here safely, and then promptly closing the door to tend to the drunk child that was now cuddling a bouquet of flowers in my living room.
"You know, I'd like you'd being here a lot more if you'd sober up beforehand." I reasoned as I took a seat on what little couch wasn't covered by his sprawled out and comfortable body.
"Noooo, listen listen. Shhhh-" his torso shot forward, scooting over to me. His finger lazily landed over my lips. "For you!" He exclaimed, shoving the bouquet of flowers towards me, having lost his previous train of thought.
I hadn't taken much notice of them earlier, but now, as they were being shoved in my face, I couldn't help but notice how artfully and intricately designed the assorted bouquet was. I took them from his hands gladly, giving the plants a curious smell. The scents mixed and mingled beautifully, and I could only imagine how expensive the arrangement must've been. I had only one questioned that begged the back of my mind.
"...why?"
"Your birthday!" Hawks replied without hesitation, the hope behind his golden eyes only made him see more vibrant. Much to my surprise, he neatly tucked his legs into his chest, interlocking his arms in front of him so he could sillily sway back and forth without much effort.
I looked down at the flowers, still a bit shell shocked by the surprise that had just landed on my doorstep. "My birthday isn't for... a while..."
"I knew that!! It's just that I didn't know when exactly your birthday was and I didn't want you to get mad at me for not getting you anything! Also! Also! I didn't know what your favorite flower was so I just got something that had a little bit of everything in it!!" the blond smiled as he rambled, it was a smile bright and big enough to make his eyes nearly close.
The joy contained in him must've been contagious, because seeing him so excited made me involuntarily smile down at the gift I'd just received. I had to laugh a bit at his ridiculous reasoning, though.
"You know that I wouldn't be mad at you for something stupid like that, Hawks." I told him.
He hiccuped before promptly resuming to his unusually fast paced lecturing. "Mhm! But I wanted to give you some cute stuff and shit!! So that you feel special! And because I also think you're like, super duper pretty, and I want you to know that I also love your-"
I returned his earlier favor, placing my pointer finger over his lips to make his rambling cease.
"These sound like things that you're supposed tell me when you're in your right mind." I laughed a bit and shook my head, retracting my hand as the thought of all the little things he'd just said made me blush. Not to mention the thought of him thinking of me when I wasn't anywhere near him, which only made me fight the butterflies in the pit of my gut even more.
The blonds face fell as he succumbed to the silence I'd just induced upon him. His once joyous aura faltered, but thankfully it was only for a moment. Almost instantaneously, his head popped right back up, and I could nearly see the sparkles in his eyes. The vermillion wings behind him flapped ever so slightly in tiny pulses of excitement.
"Let's cuddle!!" He asserted, making it so that I couldn't say no.
I got up, shaking my head though a childish smile of happiness was still plastered on my face. I headed over to the kitchen, quickly grabbing a vase and filling it with water so that the beautiful gathering of flora wouldn't wither.
"I am not about to cuddle with the drunk guy who randomly shows up at my house without warning." I was trying as hard as I could to seem firm with my answer, though I headed right back into the open living room after I was finished situating the bouquet.
"nooooooo~!" he sang dramatically as he fell back onto the padded cushion, acting as though he'd been shot down as he added a 'poof' effect with his feathers. "look, I'm a great cuddler!! I can spoon! And, and, I can uh... I can... I can... I can do that honeymoon hug thing with you! Yeah!" He reasoned, though he stared at the spinning ceiling fan as he did so, paying me no mind.
I sighed, not being able to resist his cuteness, and how attracted I was to his now loving and sweet emotional state. I slithered into the space between the red winged man and the back of the couch, assuming he'd need the open end of the sofa for his seemingly very heavy wings. He scooted back as much as he could so that we could both be comfortable, and yet another item was added to my now very long mental list of little things that this man had done for me.Hawks looked as though he was about to burst from excitement as I hugged him intently, to which he eagerly wrapped his own arms around my waist. I heard him hum happily, and I couldn't help but smile once more at our current situation. I snuggled into his chest one last time to bring his closer, and I could only hope that the time that would pass as we slept would help his inebriation subside.
And so, with his familiar scent of clean lavender and cedar lulling my mind, and with the now slowed breathing of a presumably sleeping Hawks, I allowed my eyes to close, and for myself to fall into the welcoming hug of sleep.
