Lucina

"So remember," Pit shouted over the alarms, "we only need one to take us back to that place where you woke up. Focus on clearing out all but a manageable few."

Lucina nodded, breathing hard to calm the pulse hammering in the tips of her ears. She rolled her shoulders, trying to shift some of the weight of the weapons loading her down. She'd shouldered a couple of shields, projectile weapons, and a sword that she thought might've been the Falchion, but wasn't quite sure-it didn't look the same as hers, but had the familiar depressing weight and length. Still, she hadn't been able to find hers when she and Pit had hurried and grabbed everything they could carry, so she'd had to improvise.

Pit himself was loaded down with several sacks of explosives, a few guns, a couple of staffs, and an ornate bow whose string was glowing gold. Currently, he was armed with a long beige projectile weapon-a gun, as he'd put it. He'd given Lucina a similar weapon, insisting that it would be of better use than her sort-of-Falchion.

"Do you have on your Franklin Badge?" Pit asked her. They were currently crouched by the door, peeking through the small looking-glass beyond. An army of automatons-ROBs-clogged the area beyond, but instead of the typical beige-colored ones they'd seen up to that point, they were green and were pointing nasty-looking weapons towards the armory door.

Lucina tapped her chest, where a small circular pendant was buttoned into the material of her tunic. "What exactly do these things do, again?" she asked as she fixed her awkward grip on her gun.

"They reflect any and all projectiles," Pit said as he made sure that his own pin was in place. "If this turns into a firefight-which it probably will-bullets are gonna be flying. These things'll make sure that we don't catch any."

Lucina had never heard of anything as preposterous as a pendant reflecting a projectile, but Pit was the expert in this whole area, not her. "I hope you're right."

"Hey," he said, smacking her arm lightly, making her meet his eyes. He was wearing a determined grin. "We're gonna be fine, Lucina. We've leveled the playing field. Nothing's gonna happen. We're gonna go out there, kick some robotic butt, and go save the rest of the prisoners. You ready to be a hero?"

In her experience, being a hero didn't automatically come with a happy ending, but she didn't dare say that-if Pit was determined that this was going to work, then she would mirror his enthusiasm, even if she didn't really feel it. She forced herself to smile. "It's about time," she said.

Pit reached back and pulled a small sphere from his pack. There was a small tab on one side, and he pulled it off, making the ball hiss and begin to excrete smoke. With an encouraging nod at Lucina, she threw back the lock to the door and pushed aside the box of bowling balls. She ducked to the side, and Pit swung over and tossed the ball into the area beyond before pulling back behind the door.

It was a good thing he did, because a second later, projectiles began shooting through the door. They battered the stands of weapons in the armory, punching holes through the shelves and knocking swords and daggers off of their racks. Lucina pressed against the wall as the bullets flew, breathing hard. Outside, the hissing grew continually louder.

Pit left his place on the wall and swung into the door's threshold, yelling as he squeezed the trigger on his gun and returned fire. Lucina watched him with wide eyes, waiting for him to drop from the projectiles the enemy was firing, but he kept shooting without flinching. He held the trigger on his gun down once, and the weapon began to glow as he prepared a charged shot. He released, and Lucina saw a beam of bright light rocket out of the barrel, throwing Pit back a couple of feet. Robotic squeals of pain came from beyond.
