Day: 2
Life Count: 830
Dream:
He only noticed his leg was burning when George screamed.
"Dream!" George glanced down, and Dream's eyes followed to looked at the flames crawling up the masked man's leg, eating away at the foliage beneath him.
The blond-haired boy's eyes widened behind his mask as the fire burned a gap surrounding him, cutting him off from his friends. The only thing he was still standing on was a large branch, the base connecting it to the tree charred through and almost ready to snap. His eyes shot back up to George's face as a snap resounded through the forest and the branch broke, his eyes going wide, his mouth open in a silent scream as he started to plummet.
"Dream!" George screamed, the sound barely reaching the masked man's ears as he fell.
Dream felt something slam into his side as his eyes instinctively shut, the momentum carrying him sideways and into the unburnt part of the canopy. He felt twigs and thorns rip into his skin and tear at his hoodie, but the pain was at least better than falling to the forest floor feet below him. He could feel someone's arms wrap around him as they tumbled across the canopy, skidding to a halt just inches from the edge.
"Dream! Are you all right?"
"George?"
Dream opened his eyes blearily to see George's face, his eyes worried and concerned, his glasses abandon at Sapnap's feet. There were cuts all up and down his friend's body, probably matching the ones sending little jolts of pain through Dream, with a large scratch slicing through his right eye. It looked like George had closed his eye fast enough, but blood was still trickling down his forehead.
"Uh... George? I'm safe, you can get off me now." Dream almost laughed as George glanced down at their intertwined figures then blushed a deep red.
George stood up, wincing slightly, and wiping the blood from his eyebrow as he offered his hand to Dream. He smiled, knowing George couldn't see him, and took the other boy's hand and the brown-eyed boy pulled him to his feet.
"Hey," Dream gave his friend's hand a light squeeze before letting go, and George smiled at him. "Thanks for saving me. You know you could have died though?"
"Dream, you just ruined it." George facepalmed and Dream gave his tea-kettle laugh. "Yeah I know, but you were falling, and I jumped. It was kind of a split-second, but I'm glad I did it."
Dream grinned and George smiled back as Sapnap jumped over the flames, landing in a roll, and coming up on their side, brushing off his pants calmly.
"Aww George, quit being a simp." Sapnap punched his friend's shoulder as George scowled and blushed, slamming his glasses back over his eyes with no delicacy.
"I'm not a simp, Snapmap." George's mouth turned up into a grin as Sapnap snarled at him, his hand going to his axe.
"Call me Snapmap one more time an-" Sapnap started.
"Hey guys, we've got problems." Dream called over from where he stood, kneeling at the edge of the canopy, looking down at the meadows.
George and Sapnap joined him, looking out over the people gathered beneath the forest, all looking up at them. They could see the weapons, with sharp, gleaming edges, ready to spill blood for perhaps the first time, but definitely not the last. They saw the faces, all watching them like predators, the dark eyes of Mega and Zelk glinting from the front lines, the mute with his bow pulled back, an arrow notched, and the other with his sword grasped tight in his hand.
