As eight o'clock rolled around, I heard a knock at my door.

   Aileen and I stood.

"That must be her." I said.

Aileen quickly smoothed out my dress and fixed a few loose strands of hair.

Then, she smiled. "Alright, kid, it's all up to you now. Don't let me down."

I smiled a little back. "Thanks."

She just nodded before disappearing, another knock ringing out from my door.

I nervously approached it, taking in a few breathes before pulling it open.

Hannah stood on the other side, a shocked expression on her face.

"Wow, you look... great." She said.

I smiled, my face heating up. "So do you."

We stared silently at each other for a minute before I noticed Aileen leaning against the wall behind Hannah, tapping her watch.

I shook my head a little. "Right, we don't wanna be late."

Hannah nodded, offering me her arm. "Care to lead the way?"

I looped my arm through hers. "It would be my pleasure."

We chuckled a little as we started walking down the hallway...

I pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant Aileen and I made reservations at earlier.

Hannah smiled up at it. "I love this place."

I smiled back. "Really? So do I."

She gave me a slight nudge. "That's already one thing in common."

I laughed a little. "I guess that makes us soul mates."

We shared another laugh as we got out of my car and headed into the restaurant, where a waiter showed us to our table.

After we ordered, we fell into light conversation.

Aileen sat at a table behind ours, watching the whole thing with a smile...

Until a waiter sat another couple at her table.

"Rude." She huffed as she stood up and flipped the waiter off, fading out of sight afterwards.

I chuckled a little at her antics.

   Hannah smiled. "What'd I say?"

I refocused on her. "Oh, uh, nothing... I was just thinking of something my aunt said."

She smiled a little wider. "Your aunt's quite the character."

I nodded slowly. "Yeah, she's really something, huh?"

We laughed lightly as the waiter arrived with our food.

Hannah smelled her spaghetti and meatballs with an approving look. "They never fail to amaze me."

I chuckled, glancing down at my measly salad. "You know, I don't think I've ever gotten anything other than this."

She looked from my salad to me. "Are you a vegan or something?"

I quickly shook my head. "God no, I just never really had time to actually enjoy a meal."

Hannah smirked, grabbing my fork from the salad before pushing it aside.

"Here, why don't we share mine, then? I promise you won't be disappointed."

I returned her smile as I took my fork back. "Fine, but don't expect me to go all Lady and the Tramp on this."

She let out a fake groan. "Damn, that was my plan the whole time and you foiled it."

We started to laugh again as we dug into our meal, Aileen watching from the sidelines the whole time...

The date went off perfectly, it was everything I'd hoped for and so much more. And, for the first time in a long time, I felt really happy...

I pulled to a stop in front of Hannah's apartment building.

"I guess this is me." She said.

I opened my door. "Here, I'll walk you to the door."

She smiled as she stepped out, leading me to the front door.

Then, she turned to me. "Thanks for tonight, by the way. I had a lot of fun."

   My face flushed. "Me to."

The air filled with silence as our eyes met.

My heart thundered in my chest.

'Should I kiss her..? No way, it's to soon...' My mind raced.

Then, I noticed Aileen standing behind Hannah, making kissy faces at me.

I secretly waved my hand at her and she just smiled before strolling over to my car.

Hannah took my hand in hers then. "Hey, you still with me?"

I looked down at our conjoined hands, my face growing hotter. "Of course, I wouldn't wanna be anywhere else in the world right now."

She let out a small giggle, her cheeks turning a bright pink. "Me neither..."

Then, she pressed a quick kiss to my cheek. "We should do this again sometime."

I nodded. "Definitely, you name the time and place and I'll be there."

She nodded back. "How about next Saturday?"

"That works for me, where should I meet you?"

She lowered her head a little. "I was thinking here. I'd love to cook something for you."

A wide grin spread on my face. "You're on."

She looked back into my eyes. "Alright, cool. I'll see you then."

I took a step back. "Bye for now."

She gave me a small wave before heading inside.

As soon as she was gone, I let out an excited squeal.

   "Nice going, kid."

I turned to see Aileen leaning against the side of my car.

"None of this would've happened without you."

She waved her hand at me. "Oh please, I just gave you the nudge, you did all the rest."

I pulled her into a hug then. "Still, thank you."

She patted my back. "Anytime, kid. Now, let's head back, I don't wanna miss Wheel of Fortune."

I shook my head, a small laugh escaping me. "You're something else, you know that?"

She smiled, getting into the passenger seat. "So I've heard."

After a short drive, we headed down the hallway of my apartment building, still chatting about the date, when I noticed someone standing in front of my door.

I stopped dead in my tracks. "Mom?"

She turned to me. "I thought I recognized that voice."

She glanced around the hallway. "Who were you talking to, dear?"

I shook my head. "Doesn't matter. What the hell are you doing here?"

She rested a hand on my shoulder. "Is that how you greet your mother after all this time?"

I brushed past her, unlocking my door. "Trust me, if I had it my way, I'd never have to greet you again..."
