Peter walked over to the counter, deciding at that moment that he was done with the secrecy and trying to hide information from the Avengers. I mean sure, he wanted to keep Ned safe, but it wasn't like he was just telling anyone who he was. These were 'Earth's Mightiest Heros'. He took a deep breath and began his story.
"So, when I was 13 I went on a field trip to Oscorp. Long story short, I got bit by a spider and gained these powers. And no, don't ask why. I've tried to figure it out for the last couple years and still have no idea. Soon after, I lost a family member and it was just my aunt and I. She...passed away a couple months ago, which is when I went MIA from being Spiderman."
Peter looked up from his hands and saw everyone staring at him. Well, they were more staring at the spot on his arm that had just healed up in front of their eyes. Peter felt his face flush a bit as Tony Stark's mouth dropped.
"I mean, not even Cap heals that fast? How many powers do you have kid?"
Peter chuckled and Iooked down at his now completely healed arm.
"I have a healing factor that tends to be quite fast. Every now and then, with an espicially nasty cut, it leaves a scar."
"You sure do have a lot of scars on your back," Nat said, looking Peter directly in the eye. "How did you get so many?"
He shrugged.
"After B-after it was just my aunt and I, i threw myself into being Spiderman. I was...going through a rough time, which I'm sure you all heard about after going into my mind," at this he not so subtly glared at Wanda and she shrunk back. "Being Spiderman was my only escape, and when you start locking up lots of criminals the big bosses tend to notice. Some of them wanted more revenge then others..." Peter shuttered, remembering the time a cocaine lord had managed to overpower him and keep him in a basement for 3 hours, just breaking his bones and watching them heal over and over again. That night was one of the first Peter felt like letting go and feeling the nothingness envelope him.
He turned away and glanced back towards the medbay, clearly upset about the memories being brought back by this conversation. He turned back to the 6 Avengers, and then at the phone ringing on the table. Stark picked it up and looked at Peter.
"It's your friend again." He tossed it over and Peter caught it with one hand.
"Ned? What is it?" Peter said worryingly.
"CPS finally contacted the school and they are going to wait for you in first period tomorrow. Don't ask how I know this, but my mom heard it spread around her crazy parent gossip circles. I'm sure if you don't go tomorrow they'll give up like they normally do."
Peter massaged his temple. He'd almost been dead a couple hours ago and now he had to avoid being sent to some shitty orphanage by the government.
"Fuck, I have a massive chemistry test tomorrow! You know Ms. Singer won't let me do it later cause I'm always late to her class and she hates me," Peter sighed, biting his bottom lip. "I'm just gonna have to beg her to do it later. Whatever, it's not like I haven't already mastered all her material."
"Mom heard that they are trying to get information on where you are staying. Something about 'illegal housing of minors'. You know she loves you, but she doesn't want to risk getting in trouble. If you come by soon we can give you some food, but for at least the next week you can't sleep here."
Peter sighed. He knew this day would come. He'd been staying at Ned's for weeks and truly appreciated what his family had done for him. He'd do anything to keep them safe.
"That's all good Ned, I'll figure something out. And don't worry, I'll be fine without dinner tonight. You guys have already done so much for me."
"Ok man, if you're sure. She's making meatloaf so maybe you're making the right decision. Anyways, call me tomorrow so I know you aren't falling from the sky again."
Peter smiled and said bye to Ned, handing Stark the phone again.
"You're homeless, kid?" Stark asked worryingly. Peter shuffled and looked at his very interesting feet again.
"Well, I'd been staying at my friends for a couple weeks and it seems CPS is on my ass again, so I'll have to figure something out for the next couple weeks while they forget about me and move onto another case."
Peter saw Tony glance around at the others, and an unspoken agreement seemed to pass between them.
"We have a spare room, if you'd like. I mean, you were near death a couple hours ago so it's probably a good idea to keep you here to make sure you don't have internal bleeding."
Peter looked up quickly, eyes widening.
"I can't, I'd be such a burden and I can easily find a good alley-"
"A good alley?" Cap spoke up. "Ya, no way kid, you're staying here tonight. I'll show you where the room is so you can go to sleep, you must be exhausted."
Before Peter could protest any further, he was being led past the medbay to an unmarked door. Peter gasped as a massive bed with a huge window showing off the NYC skyline came into view.
"This room is amazing," he said, looking around. Cap chuckled.
"Ya, wait until you see Tony's room. I swear it's the size of a whole apartment."
Peter sat down on the bed, suddenly exhausted by the days events. He leaned back and without even waiting for Cap to leave the room he feel into a deep sleep.
