The meeting with Kolby's teacher was in the morning, before class. But my baby boy still wasn't feeling well, so I called Nekolette to ask if there was any chance she would be able to watch him for me.

"Actually, I called mom and dad after I hung up with you last night. Mom said that there's a stomach flu going around and that our babyboy had probably caught it. She called out of work and left early this morning to head for your place. She should actually be there any-"

The buzzer for my front gates suddenly went off indicating I had a visitor and I glanced over at the security monitors on my wall. I didn't recognize the vehicle which concerned me until I saw the driver's side window roll down followed by a familiar set of ginger locks and bright green eyes.

"Moment," Nekolette finished with a laugh. The next thing I heard was the slow, lazy, scraping of one of my bar stools against the tiles of my kitchen.

"It's Mimi, mama!" I heard my son gasp, "Mimi's here!"

"Let her in, silly!" I said with a giggle from in my room up the stairs.

"It's an over 2 hour drive, Neko," I said, running my hands through my hair in the same manner I'd seen my father do too often, "She would have had to leave around 4am..."

Nekolette laughed, "That woman will do anything for you two, you know that, Kal"

"Have I ever told you how much I love you guys?" I said with a heavy sigh, my nose tingling as I held back my tears.

I could hear the smile in her voice, "About 5 times a day, beautiful. Now, go eat breakfast with my handsome nephew. Give him lots of kisses for me, and call me when you can."

"I will. I love you," I replied, strapping on my stiletto heels.

"I love you too, hun. Drive safely."

"Alright, talk to you soon."

"Soon then."

I then ended the call and made my way down the single flight of stairs that led to the main floor of my house, just as my would-be-mother-in-law was tackled by her grandson, "Good morning, my love." The woman giggled, squeezing my child in a tight hug.

"Mornin' Mimi!" he replied, hugging her back.

I smiled at the scene as I entered the dining room area, "You didn't have to do this, mom."

"Nonsense," she said, giving me a hug as well, "You know that when you need help, you can rely on us too. Besides, sick grandbabies are the reason's Mimi's like me exist," she added with a wink.

I laughed. This woman is like a mother to me. My own mother passed away when I was a child, and Laila had basically taken over that roll the moment her family knocked on our door to introduce themselves over 15 years ago. Even after the sudden rejection her son had put me through she insisted I continue to call her mom, and when I told her about my pregnancy, she was actually the first to suggest that her son not know about it.

She had been hurt and terrified for me when she found out her son had so selfishly chosen the thrown over his mate. She felt that him knowing about the pregnancy, could have changed his mind, but she also felt that he lost the opportunity to keep the family he could have had when he chose to reject our bond without even consulting me or his parents. It was as though he just didn't care anymore, like there was no competition when it came to the thrown. Like 'til death do us part' was really just 'til thrown do us part'.

"Well, thank you." I said with a genuine smile, "You came in a new car, does that mean that you'll be spending the night then?"

"Well, that all depends on what our little Thundercat would like, hmm?" She said looking down at my little boy.
