Part of him wanted to tell her that he could read her every emotion just by looking at her aura, but he liked the thought of her not knowing that he knew exactly how flustered he had made her since day one. He loved that he was gifted with the ability to read her like a book.
The only thing that bothered him about her was that it took him a while to grasp what each different color of her particular aura represented. She was the first person he'd come across that had such a unique aura. Hers wasn't just unusual colors, it came in waves. Similar to the ripples you'd see in a cup of water that had been disturbed by a vibration. But her ripples had their own aura as well. Eventually he figured out that those waves were actually her spirit energy.
You see, there is a difference between someone's aura and their spirit. Your aura comes from your emotions and feelings; whereas your spirit, that comes from even deeper within -your soul. For someone to be able to manipulate the reach in which their spirit could extend to someone else...it was a very rare thing indeed. In fact, the only beings able to do such things were Elementals, and they'd been extinct for nearly a thousand years after being hunted down by witches and greedy humans.
Whatever she was, she had to be very powerful to be able to control her spirit's wavelengths in the expert manner that she did, but what was even more strange was that each wave reacted differently toward different people.
Toward clients and other people she had to be professional with, the waves stayed short and close to her at all times, almost to the point that they were nonexistent. It was as though she didn't want any kind of intimate, personal bond with them. Toward her son, they expanded, covering over her only offspring like a blanket, and protecting the child like a body of armor. But toward Sam, it was as though they were reaching for him. Like they were trying to mix with his own spirit, and the closer they were to each other, the harder the wavelengths tried to reach out to him.
The feeling of her spirit's wavelength touching him was always an incredible thing. It was why whenever they were talking, Sam kept by her side as often as possible without making it totally obvious that he was a creepy wolf with a thing for his boss.
Her spirit waves never looked or felt invasive towards Sam. They were comforting, relaxing, soothing, longing even. Like they were seductively trying to coax him to let them in, and on more than one occasion he had almost done that. With each passing day, he struggled to keep those wavelengths out of his, and part of him knew that eventually, he wouldn't be able to fight them. Partly because he knew damn well he wouldn't have the strength to fend her off, but also because no ounce of him wanted to.
But what did that mean? If his mother had been around, she would have likely had the wisdom he sought, but seeing as how she was long gone, he needed to get to know the woman making him feel this way in order to find out, and that was what he had fully intended on doing since day one.
When Kalysta looked as if she was debating on whether or not it would be a good idea to accept the invitation to his party, Sam had quickly reassured her that it would be harmless fun and that nothing would happen that she didn't want to happen. At her hesitation, he became nervous. He thought that maybe he had made a mistake and that his behavior was unwanted and unprofessional, but once her beautiful smile spread across her gorgeous face and he heard her addicting laugh, he knew she had made up her mind.
She was going, and his heart raced at the thought of having her by his side for an entire day and night. What he most definitely hadn't expected though, was for her step around her desk and touch him so intimately.
With that simple, intimate, gentle touch, her scent became so much stronger to him, and the touch sent waves of heat throughout not only his body, but hers as well. He could feel the heat radiating off of her the instant their skin touched. It was then that Sam had confirmed exactly what she meant and would forever mean to him.
