Jim's POV :
Halfway into their discussion, Jim smelt the faint perfume in the cold night air. He ignored it, paying more attention to the discussion, dismissing the smell as the large rosebush nearby.
Crack ! The sound of a branch snapping suddenly filled the air, and everyone turned around. Jim sniffed at the air- he could smell the perfume a lot more this time, the result of fear radiating off the person. Concentrating, he manipulated the scent of the perfume to show him an image of the intruder. What he saw didn't surprise him- it was Adelaide. Her skin was paler than normal, her breathing shallow, and her eyes were wide open, terrified. Closing his eyes, Jim released the image, and felt his body sway as the energy left his body. Small hands supported his back, and he opened his eyes to find Tanya gazing at him with concern.
"You shouldn't have done that," she chastised.
"What is it, Jim?" asked Zoe.
"Not what..." Jim breathed. "Who... Adelaide..." He felt his eyes closing.
"Adelaide?" He heard Niomi say.
Then he blacked out, letting the darkness envelop him.

Adelaide's POV :
As much as she wanted to run, Adelaide stayed put, hoping the tree would conceal her. She heard the voices rise in confusion, and closed her eyes, silently praying in her head. Please, please don't see me. Please go. Her prayers were answered as the voices grew more and more distant, until finally, they were no more. Peaking out of her hiding spot, Adelaide saw that the park was empty.

She tried to slow her breathing as she walked back to the nightclub. Her feet wobbled unsteadily from her previous moment of fear, and she almost slipped several times. As she approached the club, Cath and a young, handsome man tumbled out the door, laughing.
"Aide!" Cath cried. "Where'd you go?"
Adelaide's mind raced. "Went out for some fresh air," she said quickly. "It was too stuffy in there."
"You were gone for a long time." Cath observed, frowning slightly.
"Uh, yeah, sorry, I got lost."
The man whispered something in Cath's ear, and she giggled, punching him playfully on the arm.
"D'you girls want a ride home?" The man asked.
"Oh no. I'm fi-" Adelaide started to say, before she was promptly cut off by Cath. "She'll come."
Cath dragged Adelaide into the man's car, and Adelaide leaned her head against the window, watching the buildings and trees fly past.
She stayed silent as Cath flirted with the man, giggling to everything he said.

"Aide. Adelaide!" She felt someone shaking her arm. She opened her eyes and yawned, looking over at Cath.
"Your home," her friend whispered. Adelaide climbed out of the man's car, and crossed the road to her house.

She didn't see the blue eyes that watched her from the shadows.

Aide: Adelaide's nickname :)
