13. Reality Bites

"What are you up to, best friend? I am still not done eating breakfast." Mara asked Rich as he pushed her inside his cottage.

Once they got inside, Rich's questions were unstoppable. "You have some explaining to do, girl!" Rich placed his hands on his hips. "What is going on between you and Josh? Am I missing something here? You have 20 secs to answer my question. Go!"

Mara tried looking away. "What are you saying? Nothing is going on. We are just becoming close friends."

Rich slapped Mara's hand. "I don't believe you. You like Josh; I can feel it! And from the way he looks at you, I think the feeling is mutual."

Mara's eyes grew, and her lips curved into a big smile. "You think so?" She placed her hand on Rich's lips. "Be quiet, okay? We had a serious conversation while we were at the beach last night. It was like we poured our hearts out to each other. Remember the one instance I told you that there is this video where I felt so connected to a guy?"

Rich nodded with brows raised. "So, where is this conversation going? Are we still talking about Josh or the guy in the video? I'm confused now!"

Mara looked around, making sure no one else was listening. "No. I meant I had that same connection with Josh last night. Unintentionally, while we were talking, I poured and cried my heart out to him. He hugged me and told me he was someone I can cry to whenever I needed or wanted one. I don't know, but I felt his sincerity when he said that. But then something happened when we were about to leave."

Rich's eyes got bigger. "What happened? Did you have sex on the beach?!"

Mara covered Rich's mouth with her hands. "Of course not! We accidentally kissed, and we held hands going back here. Then he kissed me goodnight."

"OMG!!! He quenched your dry and thirsty lips! Josh broke your three-long years' dry spell!" Rich yelled.

Mara pinched Rich as she covered his mouth. "Stop! I'm serious! Then when I came out for my walk earlier, he was already waiting for me at the gate."

Rich calmed himself and looked into her eyes. "Girl, we are just going to be together for a week. Either you cut it now, since we don't know where this will go. Or, for experience, enjoy the days you can be with him. But seriously, I don't want you to be in the same situation as three years ago. Not that he will do a Marc Book 2, but we are only sure of his presence for a week. We know little about them, though I can feel that they are good guys."

"I know, and I'm confused. I think I like him too. But I am not sure what to do." Mara nodded.

"Well, let us prepare for our whale watching and boat ride. Get ready now, and I will tell the guys to get ready too. So relax and enjoy the ride, girl!" Rich dramatically kisses his own hand, re-enacting Josh and Mara's kiss.

Rich's words left Mara thinking. What is she going to do? Is Josh for real? If yes, how will things work out for them?

In the other cottage, Josh and Jang also had a conversation.

"Jang 이제 여기 오는 목적을 알게 된 것 같아요.
(Jang, I think I now realize my purpose in coming here.)
이번에는 놓치고 싶지 않습니다."
(I don't want to miss it this time.)

"무슨 말이야?
(What do you mean?)
어쨌든 매니저로부터 월말로 돌아 가야한다고 들었습니다.
(Anyway, the manager told me we have to go back at the latest end of the month.)

(That means we have most 2 weeks including our week here)
