24. Love is a Sacrifice

Mara knows how much she loves Josh. And she knows how Josh feels about her. But is their love enough for Josh to let go of what he worked on for years.? Will there be no regrets in the future from Josh?

She got the thinking that life was testing her again. Three years ago, Marc let go of her to be with someone else that would help him in his career. This time, Josh wants to let go of his career to be with her.

Does she need to sacrifice the second time around?

Just this time, if she ever gives up, it is to ensure that the one she loves will continue to live the life he had before he met her.

Josh has already left for his last day of work before the holidays. So Mara is alone and is reading the note Josh left for her.

Mara can't help but think a lot while having her breakfast. It is another quiet and still moment in her life. She believes if someone needs to make a big decision, it should be her, not Josh alone.

"I'm sorry, girlfriend, that I can't stay here with you for a few days. My fam came, which was a surprise for me, and I will join them at my aunt's house for the holidays. It's a good thing, though, because I don't want to be a third wheel to you and Josh. So I will come back the day before our flight to Boston! Promise!" Rich kissed her goodbye when he stopped by to get his luggage.

"I understand, best friend. But can we talk?" Mara asked.

Rich stared at her and sat beside her. "Are you okay? What did you and Josh decide on?"

Mara just bowed down. "We haven't talked about it since you and Jang left. But I am at a crossroads. I know how we both feel about each other. But my love for him wants me to sacrifice the happiness I'm having. I don't want him to give up what he worked for 20+yrs. What if he regrets it after? My guilt will burden me forever. But the greedy me is telling me to hold on and endure. The devil in me is telling me not to give up, that I deserve this."

"I think you only need to ask yourself these: In whichever world Josh stays, can you stand by him? Or if you let him go, will you be able to live a new life as you did before?" Rich squeezed Mara's hand. "I know it's hard to answer right now. But I believe it's best that you and Josh sit down, talk and decide together. Josh is a mature and good person. So trust him and if you love him, support him in whatever decision he will make."

Mara hugged Rich. "I love you, best friend!"

"And also, wanting to be happy with the person you love and who loves you is not a sin. I believe you and Josh deserve to be happy together, whether in your ordinary dreamland or his famous Oppa world."

Mara's eyes lightened up after hearing what Rich said. "Thank you, best friend! I will miss you."

Rich brought out his luggage from the guest room. "You can call me anytime. I have to go; my cousin is waiting outside."

As the New Year is coming, Josh made sure that he and Mara spent their time together well. He brought Mara to his favorite places in Jeju. Mara felt Josh's love and protection the more. She keeps on praying for a sign which decision she should choose.

Jang was in Josh's living room early morning. "Good morning Mara! Sorry to disturb you, but Josh and I just need to discuss a few things regarding his schedules for the coming year. How are you? You look tired?"

Mara smiled despite feeling tired in the past days. "Good morning Jang! Don't worry; I just woke up from my second sleep after my night's sleep." She giggled, seeing Jang's confused face. "Do I look like I'm tired? I guess sleeping is tiring! Hahaha! Josh is making me lazy and fat here. I will have difficulty getting back into shape when I return to Boston."

Before sitting down with Jang, Josh asked Mara if she needed anything. Mara has been sleeping more over the past few days. It worries him she might stress too much about the article on him. He wanted to tell her he was taking care of everything, but he wanted to surprise her, too. With Jang's help, he wants to ensure her first new year with him is special. He wanted her to forget her new year's experience three years ago.

(He can't contain his excitement. So that is why he moved back to the hotel.)

(Good! Now work hard. Keep me updated.)
그리고 장씨는 또 형제 님 감사합니다!"
(And Jang again, thank you, brother!)
