YOU AND OWEN rushed the others into the nearest room, Claire shoving a cabinet to block the door while you held Maisie's shoulders in a comfortingly gesture.
How did the raptor become loose? Did it escape itself? Did some idiot free it? You gritted your teeth, sending jolts of pain through your jaw. You had hoped the damned thing would die in that cage.
You hadn't noticed Owen and Claire race past you and the panicking Maisie until Owen retraced his steps to nudged you both forward.
The four of you navigated the halls and corridors carefully, fear radiating off of each of you. Maisie clung to your hand as though her life depended on it, and each sound made you flinch.
Your mind travelled to Foxtrot, and where the striped beast might be. Would he be a match against the Indoraptor? Could he protect you?
A sullen thought interrupted your hope; would he even want to protect you? You did abandon him on an island when he had never been taught to fend for himself. Could he forgive you?
Maisie tugged on your hand, noticing the single tear that trailed down your cheek. Neither of you were brave enough to speak, however she wiped your tear and gave your hand a reassuring squeeze.
The faintest smile made your lips twitch, thanking Maisie silently for being so caring. You lifted your gaze to watch open cautiously push open the large doors that led to the museum, each of your group slipping through the crack.
The only noise was the thunder outside as you silently padded forward. Owen spotted a man's body behind the Triceratops' skull display and approached to retrieve the gun.
You flinched as the body was suddenly pulled behind the display and you shoved Maisie behind it to hide. You pressed your back against the wood, attempting to steady your breathing while you listened to the sickening crack of bones and the noises of the Indoraptor as its claws tapped the floor.
Owen moved around to the other side, with each of you following while the raptor moved to the opposite in search of you.
It hissed, and you again pressed your back to the wood as Owen peeked out at it, reaching for the gun again, but Claire stopped him as creaks sounded above you.
You looked up to glimpse the chin of the raptor as it climbed atop the skull for a vantage point. It seemed it hadn't found you, until the radio of the dead man sounded. Instantly, that gained the Indoraptor's attention and it locked its gaze on you.
"Run!" Owen screamed as the raptor screeched, ushering you toward the spiraling staircase. You kept ahold of Maisie, making sure she could keep up as you hustled up the stairs after her.
Owen was behind you, but the Indoraptor leapt onto the bars surrounding the stairs and attempted to break through to him. You whirled around, kicking it vainly on the snout. It only hissed and snapped until it slipped and fell.
You grabbed Owen's arm and yanked him up the rest of the way. Claire led the way into a secret cabinet that led to a wall display.
You listened to the Indoraptor as it climbed and tore apart the railing before it began sniffing for you. It tapped its claws like a Velociraptor.
Owen peeked out a crack, and you attempted to look over him, but he closed it before you could.
You both climbed down into the display, hiding against the side until Owen shut off the lights. The Indoraptor chirped like a raptor, and, for a moment, you wondered if it was talking to itself. Was it lonely?
In the darkness, you felt as though Owen had upped the fear factor massively, and you felt your blood turn to ice in anticipation as you crept through the display, gaze focused on the other side of the glass.
Where was it? You could occasionally hear it as you made it to the other side with Owen. You waited for Maisie and Claire to cross when the lights suddenly turned on.
You attention shot back to Maisie when she began to tremble and screamed, realizing the monster was on the other side, staring at her. It roared before crashing through the glass, which caused a log to fall onto Claire and Maisie.
The end of it knocked Owen back and into you. You scrambled to recover, but the sight before you made it hard to move; The Indoraptor's head snapping toward Claire and Maisie through the objects it knocked down.
Owen recovered faster than you did, kicking the log, making the raptor pull its head out before finding a new hole to snap from.
Claire rushed Maisie to get away, and the Indoraptor hissed and snapped, inching closer to her and making more things fall. A log fell onto Owen, which you helped shove off of him while Claire screamed in agony. You glimpsed the raptor's sickle claw sunken into her knee.
Maisie was gone, Claire was in danger, you didn't know what to do. But Claire had Owen, who did Maisie have? But, before you could chase her, she screamed, catching the Indoraptor's attention. It struggled to pull its head out and began to pursue her.
You gasped, instinctively crawling out of the display to glimpse the raptor chasing her away. Glass shards dug into your palms and knees and you faintly registered you were bleeding, but Claire's groans brought you back to her as you helped Owen pull the log and debris from her.
He held her wound, checking it. It wasn't pretty. As he reassured her and instructed her, you went to retrieve the gun. However, you heard Claire telling Owen to go find Maisie, and you handed him the rifle.
"You go too, Y/n. They'll need you more than I will," Claire told you as she pulled you in for a brief hug. You nodded against her chest before pulling away to follow Owen.
"Please, be safe!" You told her, Claire repeated it back to you.
You raced beside Owen as you followed the Indoraptor's destructive path. As t ended at a wall with a small chute door, you realized Maisie must be heading toward her room. It would be her safest place, mentally.
"Owen, she's going to her room, I think!" You told him, already bounding through the halls in the direction of it. You heard his footsteps behind you.
Faster and faster, your urged your aching body. You had to push through the soreness of your joints and legs and the stinging pain of your shredded palms and knees if you wanted to make it there in time. Or, what if you were already too late?
The thought of that thing tearing Maisie apart... it spurred you faster.
