Hello to you few humans who find this entertaining! I apologize for not updating sooner, but I've been busy with school, so here is Chapter Two! We've got *gasp* a new character! Enjoy!--- Ariel
The mid-May sun was starting to set as Nicholas pulled onto a street just out of Santa Clarita. "This the right street?" Nicholas popped his sunglasses down to get a better view of the rows of houses.
Tyler admired the map sitting in his lap. His eyes scanned over the multiple destinations scratched off and the few that were left uncovered.
"You know, this would be a whole lot easier if you would just use a GPS," Nicholas interrupted. "I mean, it would save us so much time."
"Hey, you are not the guy in charge of directions, are you?" Tyler snapped back. "And yes, this is the right street."
Nicholas shook his head as he continued driving, his black Chevrolet creeped up the street as he started looking for the correct house number. "Where am I going?"
Tyler pulled a thick book out of his bag next to his feet. "Um," he looked up from his map and squinted. "Right there!" Tyler yelled.
Nicholas slammed on the breaks and both of their heads lurched forward. "Some more warning next time!" He exclaimed. Nicholas turned the car around and pulled into the driveway of a small rancher. He turned off the ignition and gave a quizzical look to Tyler before getting out the car. "What are we here for again?"
"To teach you about exorcisms," Tyler responded. He trotted up to the door and knocked three times.
They both stood for a moment, Nicholas heard rustling from the side of the door. He couldn't help but feel a bit of nervousness as he waited for what was behind that door, he was a bit caught off guard by who greeted them at the door.
The door opened, revealing a young woman, about Nicholas's age, a smile formed on her berry-stained lips, a thin silver ring sparkled from the corner of her mouth. "Hello?" She looked at Tyler and Nicholas like they were inadequate.
"We're here on assignment," Tyler explained, "I'm here training a new recruit, and I thought that you would be just who we needed to talk to."
She raised a dark brow at Tyler, the look on her face saying all the words she couldn't. "What would he," she pointed distastefully at Nicholas, "want to know about classical literature?"
Tyler leaned closer, ignoring the offended look on Nicholas's face. "I mean your other job," he whispered coldly.
Her expression changed. "Come in," she led the two of him through her front door and shut it abruptly behind them. "So, newbie, what business do you have that would involve learning the inner workings of the modern exorcism?"
Nicholas looked at Tyler, a look of confusion and concern on his face. He watched as Tyler gestured for him to answer and turned back to the girl. "I'm on this mission, I guess, to save my family. And this one," he pointed to Tyler, "says I need to learn as much as I can if I wanna succeed." Nicholas's pale eyes met her dark ones. "And he said you were the best girl for the job."
A smug look overcame her smooth, tawny face. "Really?" She beamed proudly. "Tyler, I didn't expect such high praise from you!"
Tyler smirked and shook his head. "You know I don't give away accolades that easy, the word 'best' wasn't included in my explanation."
She rolled her eyes, before turning to Nicholas and extending her slender hand. "I'm Larissa, it's a pleasure to be working with you." Her voice dripped with sweetness.
