The next morning wasn’t any easier than the night before had been, Stevie thought, the only difference is yesterday Lindsey would actually look her in the eye
“Lindsey look about last...” she started
“I don’t want to talk about it Stevie” he snapped
“Lindsey please stop...your hurting me” she said and hung her head
“I’m sorry, I just...I can’t sleep in the same bed with you when I...don’t feel anything for you” the stop was pulled out and Stevie’s heart shattered into a million tiny pieces that went everywhere
Stevie couldn’t physically speak after what he just said so she decided to leave him in the kitchen and go into a different room
Stevie was just setting the kids up with a game when the doorbell rang, when she answered it the band were looking back at her
“Hey love” Christine said and hugged Stevie
“Oh hey, this is a surprise, please come on in” Stevie moved out the way for them to come through, and John and Mick took turns to also hug her
“So where’s the old man?” Mick asked jokingly
“He’s in there but...” Stevie couldn’t finish because Mick had found Lindsey, she ran after them to see what was going to happen
“Lindsey, you worried us mate” Mick said and put his arms around him, Stevie watched Lindsey stiffen
“Um Lindsey, want to go do some drinks whilst I explain to them?” Lindsey nodded and left the room
“What the hell’s the matter with him?” Mick asked
“He had severe concussion from the crash, and it left him with...memory loss” Stevie explained
“What so he doesn’t remember any of us?” John asked and Stevie shook her head
“He doesn’t remember Lily or Adam either” Stevie quietly said
The rest of the band tried to take in all the Stevie was saying, Lindsey came back in with a tray of drinks and set them down
“I’m going up stairs for a bit” he told her
“No stay down here, you need to try and get used to people that have been around you for decades” Lindsey apologised to everyone and walked out the room anyway
“I’m so sorry guys” Stevie said and burst into tears
“It’s a lovely day outside why don’t you and Mick go sit by the pool for a bit and talk about golf or whatever the hell you men talk about” Chris said to John and rolled her eyes when Mick said “They usually have legs” to the last statement she made
Once they had stepped outside Chris took Stevie in her arms and gave her a tight hug
“Come on sit down and talk to me” they both sat on the sofa and after a while Stevie started to talk
“He doesn’t even remember a tiny bit Chris, when he first woke up I gave him a kiss and spoke to him and all he did was look at me and ask me who I was! He then refused to acknowledge he has children” Stevie had to keep wiping the tears away
“How was he when he saw them?” Chris asked hesitantly
“Perfect actually, he played along and pretended because he had been away so long he had forgotten their names” she smiled at remembering “Actually he was better with them than he has been with me” Stevie explained all that had happened the night before
“God, I’m so sorry Stevie”
“And the worst thing is he keeps shouting at me and just before you got here, he told me he didn’t feel anything for me so he wouldn’t sleep in the same room” she couldn’t stop when more tears scorched her cheeks
“But weren’t you two trying for another baby?” Stevie nodded
“So what happens if you find out at some point that it worked?” Chris was worried now
“I really don’t know, I just hope so much now that it didn’t work” they didn’t talk anymore, they waited for a few moments and the other guys walked back in
“Right well we will be leaving now, I think you need to explain to Lindsey who we are!” Chris motioned for Mick and John to follow
“I’m sorry Mick, if he doesn’t know who you are chances are he won’t remember how to play either” Stevie watched as Mick’s eyes grew wide
“Shit, I hadn’t thought of that, we’ll sort something out” Mick hugged her again and they all left, Stevie needed to go and talk to Lindsey so she went up to where he slept last night
“Can I come in?” she asked as she knocked on the door
“Yeah, who were they?” he asked when she walked in
“Lindsey, you and I and the three people you just met are all in a band”
“A band? Like a small local one?” Stevie laughed
“No were massive Lindsey, were Fleetwood Mac, we’ve played across the stages of the world” Lindsey took it all in
“Geez I’m in a band! What do I do?”
“You sing and you’re the best guitarist I’ve ever heard” he thought she sounded so proud
“Do I have a guitar?”
“Only about a hundred!” she laughed again
“I’m going to try and play it, see whether I can”
“Okay, their just down the hall and to the left, that’s where you studio is”
“Great thank you!” Lindsey left and all Stevie could think to herself was that he was even going to try more with his guitars than he was with her
