I stared into his amber orbs and he stared into my brown ones.
How many times have we heard of that before? Idk about you, but orbs is overused and...overall creepy to me. So here are a few words to use that describe color of your eyes.
When writing, you want to make sure that your spelling and your grammar is immaculate. It's the most important part of writing a book. My motto is; Write what you want to read. Do you get annoyed when the spelling and grammar is horrible in a book? Make it better. Write like you're reading the hardcover copy of your book, right in your hands.
You obviously don't want there to be any mistake as it is unprofessional and annoying.
If your readers got hooked by your summary of your dark psycho Harry Styles book, but as soon as they read the first chapter there are a lot of grammatical and spelling errors, they will for sure remove the book from their library.
This is preventable.
When I usually finish writing a chapter, I have Siri read what I wrote back to me. If you have an iPhone, you can get this feature by going into:
Settings: scroll down to Accessibility, click on Spoken Content and turn them on. To get her working after you turned it on, swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen and she will read whatever it is on the screen. When I do this, I usually review the chapter as if I'm just a reader and pay attention to the grammar and spelling and make sure there isn't any errors.
And if there is, I just go back and fix them.
There are other websites though where you can put what you wrote, for example an app called Grammarly, a free program you can download on your phone and it will underline most spelling and grammar errors.
Or you can always ask a friend to review your work if you want, I usually just review it myself and that's how it works for me. Even though I know I have a few spelling errors on my books because of how fast I type, but I usually go back and edit.
You can also improve your writing by:
Reading a book, an actual book where there are for sure no spelling errors because they have been reviewed by an editor.
Watch videos on YouTube about writing and spelling and how to improve as a writer.
