ESCAPISM CAN BE DEFINED AS our tendency to seek distraction from unpleasant realities by looking for entertainment or engaging in fantasy.

Peach still vividly remembered the day her father disappeared. She remembered feeling nothing but the desire to hide — whether that be from her grief, or the people closest to her and her brother.

She felt nothing like herself. She felt like everything that once made sense had become confusing. She felt like she would be sad for the rest of her life.

Then, someone offered her a job on Figure Eight. And in an effort to cheer her up, her boyfriend mentioned working together could be fun. So Peach got a job at the country club and on the golf course.

And each day she'd watch rich people come in and out with designer clothes, platinum cards, hot shot jobs, and special connections. She watched them smile, she'd watch them laugh. She watched some fail, and others succeed. But none of them ever frowned. None of them ever cried, or let even a droplet well in their eyes.

Rich people weren't sad. They were happy. Because even when a deal fell through, they'd have another to bounce back on. Even when the power went out, they'd have a generator to run. And when the people they loved left, it was only a matter of time before they came back.

Peach is a future nurse. Or teacher. Or engineer maybe. She's never known what she wants to do, just that she's smart enough to do it. She goes to the kook school on Figure Eight. I miss her — We all do. Some of us more than others. But I know she'll be back, 'cause you know what they say; Once a pogue, always a pogue. ❜

if you're here from my other story "young wild & free", i know georgia is another character in that story, but i wanted peach's nickname to be peach. her real name being georgia is the only way it the nickname makes sense to me. also, while joey is a character in this tory, her plot is not the same and not as relevant in this. this is peach's story.
