Prologue

As they handed me and my mom the folded-up flag, I could only look at the grass beneath me it was then I realized that I, Avalon Morgan, would never see my father again. I grew up in firehouse 51 alongside Kelly Severide we've known each other since we were born, seeing as we were born only 2 days apart, our families were best friends. So when I felt a hand grab my own I looked into those beautiful blue eyes that made me weak, and he said to me, "everything is going to be ok" then it was another round of tears ruining his nice dress shirt. When we got back to the house my mother went straight to her room slamming the door she wasn't taking my father's death too well, but I mean who could. Kelly led me to my room looking at me with concern but also a tinge of nervousness as he sat next to me,

" I don't know what to say Mo" " It's ok Kel," I said softly, finally looking at him."Ok this might sound crazy and I know we are only 16 but.." He hesitated."But what Kelly" after a few seconds he finally spoke"Marry me?""WHAT" I yell at him, I looked at his softly as he got down on one knee, "Kelly""I asked your dad last week for your hand in marriage, I have loved you since I knew what love was, marry me Mo?" I was in shock I didn't know what to say, "Say Something at least" it was then I realized that it had been a minute or two and I was just staring at him."Yes," I said softly, "Yes, ill marry you" he spun me around, both of us in smiles I looked at him, "Kelly the ring?""Oh yeah, sorry," he said grabbing it from his inside coat pocket " when I asked you, dad, he left to go get this from your family safe, it was your grandmothers ring he said," he told me as he put in on my ring finger."Oh Kelly, it's beautiful, you don't know how much this means to me""I know it's sudden with everything that's going on right now but I couldn't wait any longer, it was burning a hole in my pocket," he said laughing with his adorable smile."Kelly I promise it's ok, this gives me hope for the future, were gonna be alright" he kissed me falling back on the bed, and the rest was history.
