I was the first person to wake up. Aspen was snoring away, and sunlight was pouring through the satin curtains. I sat up, deciding what to do until he woke up. Confused as to what I wanted to do, I just got up and went to his bathroom. I don't know if you guys have seen the awesome bathrooms on house hunters, but that's exactly what his looked like. There was a shower that was tiled black, and a giant jacuzzi style bathtub. The toilet was normal, and he had two sinks. I filed through his drawers to try and find a hair brush. After a few razor blades and a condom box, I found the brush. Once I had put my hair in a bun, I flopped down the stairs to the kitchen. Since no one else was up, I thought I'd start making some food. I looked in the fridge to get out some bacon and I put a pan on the stove. Once I'd figured out how the burners worked, I placed the strips on the stove. I was about half way finished with the package, when I heard a click. A gun. I slowly turned around, holding the spatula with one hand. Once I had turned around completely, a man who looked to be in his early forties was holding a Wesson 44 in my direction.
"Who the hell are you?" He questioned in a low voice.
"Uh, I'm Trish." I replied. He lifted an eyebrow.
"Should I know you?"
"I'm Aspen's friend." I stuttered, my voice shaking. He put the gun away and laughed.
"Sorry to scare you, it's just a little odd to see a random person cooking breakfast in our kitchen." I looked down at the bacon, then at him and stated,
"Sorry, I didn't know what else to make. You must be Aspen's dad." He nodded his head.
"Yes. Landon Gold." He held out his hand to shake. I took it and replied,
"Nice to meet you." He nodded and told me that he'd finish making breakfast, so I bounded back up the stairs to Aspen's room. When I walked in, all I could hear was the song,'drop it like its hot', by snoop dogg. When I looked over to his bathroom, I saw Aspen dancing in the mirror while mouthing the words into his toothbrush. He looked pretty zoned in. I noticed another thing, too. He was shirtless. I tried to look away, but let's face it, I'm only human. He had a six pack, and the arm muscles fitted perfectly against his body. He had a tattoo of a bird on his upper right arm. Then I looked on his back. He had five strange scars. One ran up and down the length of his back, right next to his spine. One was barely recognizable, but lingered on his left shoulder blade. The next two formed an X that was mostly on his left side, but came on his back, as well. The last one ran slanted across all of them. He noticed me staring, and then he smirked. I snapped out of my trance and blushed. He flexed a couple times, making the bird tattoo fly up and down. I got up and shut the door. When I returned down the stairs, there was a boy who had to have been at least 12. He was happily eating the bacon, and didn't notice me right away. When I sat down, he grinned at me.
"Are you Aspen's girlfriend?" He asked. I thought about what to say, and decided to be like Aspen.
"I'm Aspen's friend, and yes, I am a girl." He snickered and turned back to his plate.
"I'm Trevor, Aspen's brother."
"Nice to meet you, Trevor."
"Same here, what's your name?"
"Trish."
"Trish, nice meeting you." He resumed scarfing down his bacon.
"Table manors, Trevor!!!" I heard a female voice call. As I turned around, a petite woman in business attire stopped in the doorway.
"Hello, who are you?" She asked politely.
"I'm Trish, Aspen's friend." I answered. She smiled and held out her hand. I took it.
"Nice to meet you, Trish." I nodded and replied,
"Your house is absolutely beautiful."
"Thank you. I designed it my self." I was surprised by this, so I asked,
"You designed the entire house?!?" She laughed in a pleasant way.
"No, my husband designed the actual house, but I designed all of the furniture and brought it in, that's what I do for a living, I design furniture." I gawked around the kitchen, amazed that she did all this.
"Well, you're doing a spectacular job, Mrs. Gold." She giggled and replied,
"Please, you can call me Vicky." I smiled and felt like a million bucks.
"Are you and my Aspen dating?" She asked curiously.
"No! We're just friends. He needs help on his speech for school, so I came to help him." I responded. She nodded, though she didn't look like she believed me. We heard some thumping down the stairs, and Aspen appeared. Today, he was wearing a blue T-shirt and some skinny jeans. He kissed his mom on the cheek then looked at me, and blushed. I looked down at my clothes, realizing that I was still wearing his jacket from last night. I tossed it back to him, and he caught it and threw it in a basket in the hallway. He strolled over to his little brother and ruffled his hair.
"Morning, Trev." Trevor leaned his head, swatting Aspen's hand away.
"Morning, ass!"
"Trevor Langworth Gold!" Aspen's mom hollered. Trevor took some bacon and bolted up the stairs. She followed after him. Aspen looked at me and smiled.
"Did you enjoy my abs?"
"Not as much as I enjoyed your dancing." I retorted. He nodded, shrugged, and threw his hands in the air.
"What can I say? I'm a talented guy." I rolled my eyes and took some bacon and shoved in his mouth.
"Hurry up and eat, we need to get started on your speech." After he finished the bacon, we went back to his room and sat on his couch.
"Your dad pointed a gun at me this morning." I said. Aspen smirked and replied,
"Sorry, should've told you he's an ex fed. He quit the force to become a surgeon." Then he laughed and added,
"He still keeps guns for safe keeping."
"Well, I won't try to rob you guys, that's for sure."
"Your a criminal, Trish? I expected better from you!" I punched him and sighed,
"Ok, time to start this stupid thing. What do you want to right about Trevor?" The start of his speech was a little hard to get through, because he kept fooling around, but once we got in the zone, he was easy to work with. Beneath all the goofiness he did, he was actually really poetic. By the time we finished, it was about 11:30 in the morning.
"Well, I suppose I'd better be heading back." We hopped in his car and drove off.
"So your dad's a surgeon, huh?" I asked, wanting to have a conversation.
"Yeah, he does mostly car accidents and poisonous bites. What do your parents do?"
"My mom is a stay-at-home, and my dad's a surgeon, too. Except he does mostly ER work."
"Really? That's pretty cool."
"Yeah, he thinks so too." I said while smiling. Aspen turned to me,
"What do you want to do when you grow up?" He asked. I thought about it for a few minutes.
"I think I wanna be a physiologist, you?" I questioned.
"I think I wanna be a singer. You get parties all night, and a lot of women, too." He smiled and winked. I giggled and rolled my eyes.
"Speaking of singing, are you excited for the duet thing in choir?"
"Yeah. Speaking of choir, I want to ask you something." He began, looking over at me with a smile.
"Shoot." I said, wondering what he was thinking.
"I wanted to know if you'd like to do the duet with me, you have an awesome voice." I was expecting him to ask me, but now that he asked, I couldn't help but blush and feel flattered.
"I'd be honored, Aspen. You have an amazing voice, too." Just then, 'Don't' by Ed Sheeren came on the radio. Aspen yelled out,
"Aww, yeaya! This is my jam!" We both started to sing along, although I sounded really bad. As we pulled up to my house, the song ended and we both laughed. I wanted to spend more time with him, but I had promised mom that I'd go with Wendy to the mall to pick out some new clothes.
"Well, thanks for driving me."
"No problem. I like hanging out with you, we should do it more often." I smiled and said my goodbyes, then I walked inside the house. As I walked inside the house, my parents were watching the local news.
"Local teenager and football star, Danny Take, was brutally assaulted at a party last night.." That Made me giggle.
"Hey, Trish! Wendy is waiting for you in the bedroom." I jogged up the stairs and opened the door. Sure enough, Wendy was sitting on her bed, listening to her headphones at an unhealthy level.
"HELLO!" I shouted so she'd hear me. She looked up, took off the headphones, sighed, and we walked to the Jeep. We drove to the mall in awkward silence.
"So, what are we shopping for?" I asked. She looked straight ahead.
"Shit." She replied.
"Okayyyy, what kind of shit?" I asked again. She rolled her eyes and kept driving. We arrived at the mall and started at JCpenny's. We went to the dress section first. She grabbed a handful of dresses and went to the dressing room. The first one she came out in was strapless. It started as a light blue and faded out into green as you looked down. She flipped back her long, naturally straight Brunette hair, and stared at me.
"Well?" She asked, annoyed.
"Well, it's a nice dress, what's the occasion?" I asked.
"I'm going on a date with, someone." She answered. My mind flashed to the scene at Mr. Field's house, but I pushed it away.
"It's nice, but I think we should look at the other ones, just in case." I said. She stomped back to the dressing room. The next couple dresses she tried were either not her color, or way too short. The fourth dress she tried was a keeper. It was completely black, with crisscross straps and nothing in the back.
"I love it, it looks nice on you." I exclaimed. She might have smiled, but only for a second. We bought it and then we stopped at the shoe store. She bought a couple of black high heels, and then we left.
"Say, you hungry? My treat!" I asked. She looked annoyed, but she agreed. We got some Dairy Queen and sat in the food court. Talk about awkward. I wanted to talk to her, but she rejected me after a while. Her friends came over and sat with us.
"Hey, Wendy. Sup?" Said a girl with dyed hair and a forehead piercing.
"Yeah, sup?" Added a girl with purple tips and a nose piercing.
"Oh, ya know, the usual."
"Yeah, same here, who's this?" They asked Wendy while pointing to me.
"This is Trish, she's a foster kid, like me."
"Hey, Trish." They said. I said hello and then tugged Wendy away.
"Buy!" She exclaimed, before we left to get to our car. I thought I was out of the deep end, but the I realized a big man with dark hair was leaning against our Jeep.__________________________________________________________________________________
