Aspen's snores ran deep into the morning as Rae and I cleaned camp up a little. It was 9:30, and almost everyone was sleeping. Eve and Hunter had gone fishing again, and Rae was with me. Samantha had woken us up at 7:00 while she was calling Ashton's name in her sleep. We threw out the garbage and set out three bottles of ibuprofen, although I was pretty sure Samantha had her own.
"Are hang-overs really that bad?" I asked. Rae gave me a skeptical look and nodded.
"Uh-huh. Why, haven't you ever been hung over?" I shook my head.
"No. I don't like alcohol." We laughed and continued working. The morning music was playing, and they played Shake it off. Rae and I sang along and danced. We both laughed and agreed that we were the worst dancers ever. Luke and Marleen were the first ones out of their tent, Marleen limping a little.
"Damn, babe. Go a little softer next time! I'm still sore." She smiled. He wiggled his eyebrows.
"You know you love it!"
"I still can't believe it fit!"
"Ok, ok!" I screamed, covering my ears. They rolled their eyes and took a bottle of orange juice.
"Where's everyone else?" Luke asked, taking a swig of the liquid. I pointed to the motionless tents.
"Sleeping off their hang-overs."
"Ahh." He stated. Marleen teetered over without shoes on.
"Did you get lucky last night?"
"With Eve and Hunter in the same tent?!?" I asked sarcastically.
"If they were ok with it."
"Oh, shut up! No, I didn't do anything. I went to bed as soon as my head hit the pillow." She shrugged and went back to Luke. Rae came over to the picnic table and sat down with me. Styles was sleeping in, but Rae said that was normal for him. I turned to face her and stated,
"Rae?"
"Yeah?"
"Has Aspen ever, I don't know, had a girlfriend, before?" I asked. She thought about it a second.
"I think so, but she only used him to get her stuff she wanted."
"When was that?"
"Eh, I'd say around, a year or so? I'm not sure, why?" She asked, turning to me now. I squirmed a little.
"Well, everyone thinks we're dating, and I don't really know what we are. He's not really a friend, but he's not really a boyfriend, I've never had one." I stated. Her eyes bulged.
"What?! You've never had a boyfriend?"
"Nope!" Marleen called over her shoulder. Luke tickled her and she threw a Twinkie at him. Rae turned to me.
"I never would've guessed!"
"Thanks, I guess."
"No, I mean, it's not a bad thing you haven't had one, but, wow!"
"Who was your first boyfriend?" I asked. She sat up a little, and then smiled.
"Lesley Weinermiener."
"Weiner, what?"
"Weinermiener. I know, it's a ridiculous name, but boy, was he handsome."
"What'd he look like?"
"He wasn't very tall, but he had dark hair and dark brown eyes. He had three face peircings, and his smile was like a sledgehammer on my knees." She looked dreamily off.
"Why'd you break up?"
"Oh, he cheated on me with a snotty rich girl. I found out one day because I caught them in the girls bathroom." She stated, not shaken at all. I was dumbfounded in my seat.
"I'm, uh, sorry."
"Yeah." We sat awkwardly until Samantha, thankfully, came stumbling out of the tent, holding her head. Ashton followed shortly behind, also moaning from the headaches. Samantha popped a pill while Ashton took a bottle of water. They plopped down on a table next to Marleen. Marleen asked,
"Are you ok?" All she got was a moan in response. Hunter and Eve returned with a gigantic northern pike.
"What the hell!?!?" Luke called. They both held it up,
"We's is eating fish tonight!" Hunter called in a weird accent. They set it down on the table and got some knives. They told me to go get Aspen, because he's had the most experience with gutting fish. I crawled into the tent, careful not to make too much noise. He was curled in the fetal position inside his blue sleeping bag. He snored, but not too loud. His gold curls fell on his face, and he was drooling. I giggled and shook him a little.
"Aspen!" Only a few groans.
"Aspen, get up!" He still didn't move. I took Hunter's sleeping bag and covered his mouth with it. Then, I plugged his nose shut and held my position. His eyes darted open and he threw me aside, gasping for air.
"Trish, what the fuck?!?" He yelled, still breathing. I giggled and said,
"They need you out side. C'mon." I helped him to his feet and we stumbled over to the area. Samantha offered him a pill, which he gladly took. Marleen, Rae, and I all went to fix up the tents a little, because we didn't wanna see the fish guts everywhere. Rae went to fix up their tent, while Marleen helped me with ours. Once we set foot in her tent, I felt a sticky substance on the bottom.
"What's this?"
"Oh, sorry. Must've been Luke's."
"Eww!!! Marleen that's disgusting!" She laughed and looked at her hair.
"Uhh! He messed it up again! I need to stop letting him hold onto it!"
"Ok, shut up!" I yelled. She threw a pillow at me and laughed. I smirked and we had a pillow war. It was all fun and games until Samantha came in.
"Oh my gosh guys, you are not gonna believe..." WHAP! Marleen slapped her with a pillow. Samantha groaned, grabbed a pillow, and swung it at Marleen.
"You stupid slut, that was my head!" We all fought until Hunter called,
"Yo! We're going swimming!" Then we heard some whispers.
"Oh, and Ashton's excited to see you in a bathing suit!" He called. Samantha's eyes widened, and she grabbed our hands.
"Ok, time to change." All the girls changed in the big tent, while the guys just went down to the lake. The dismantled fish laid everywhere on the table. Rae put on a yellow bikini with green stripes going up and down. Samantha wore a light blue two piece with skull sequences everywhere. Marleen was wearing a dark red bikini with sparkles everywhere. Eve put on a one-piece that was purple and pink spotted with black, and I wore my regular blue one piece. Once everyone was out, Rae looked at Eve and I.
"Why don't you guys where bikinis?" I shrugged.
"I don't know, I'm just not comfortable with them."
"Ok, let's get going guys!" Marleen yelled, grabbing some towels and running down the steep hill. Rae and I walked down, and Eve helped Samantha, who was still fighting her hang-over. Once we reached the bottom, we saw Ashton go flying past us on an old rope.
"Whooooo!" He yelled, then cannon balled into the water. Styles had gone down with them, and was waiting on the beach for Rae. They sat together in the sun. Hunter was wearing green trunks with leaves on them. Ashton wore sponge bob shorts with no strings. Luke was wearing a blue and white checkered pair of trunks, and Aspen was wearing trunks with a bunch of emojis on them. Hunter picked up Eve and ran into the water. Samantha ran to Ashton, and Marleen ran to Luke. Aspen came up to me and led me to the rope.
"You gotta try this!" He exclaimed. I fitted my hands around the rope, and closed my eyes.
"I can't do this!"
"Yes you can!" He pushed me off and I swung over the lake. My legs swung in the air, and I screamed.
"What do I do?!?"
"Let go!" I heard everyone exclaim. I let go and fell to the cold, clear water below. I landed only a few feet from Luke and Marleen, and they were sprayed with water. When I came up for air, Luke was laughing and Marleen was coughing for breath.
"Trish! Holy crap, that was too much!" Samantha splashed her, and so did Eve. She screamed and splashed back. Ashton picked up Samantha and threw her in the water. Aspen came splashing on the rope, and came up, flinging his wet hair everywhere. I looked to the beach and saw that Rae and Styles had disappeared.
"Where'd Rae go?" I asked Aspen. He looked at the beach and then smirked at me.
"She's getting the surprise for everyone."
"What surprise?" Hunter asked. Aspen spun around and smiled mischievously.
"It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you!" We all groaned and started a splashing war. Hunter splashed Eve who splashed Aspen who splashed Luke and so on. After about fifteen minutes, we all heard the motor of a boat. Styles pulled along side us in some sort of a speed boat. Rae sat in one of the seats. The boat was black with orange flames, and it was towing two black inner tubes.
"We're going tubing! Hop in!" Rae called. All of the boys and Marleen and Samantha whooped. Eve and I stared at each other. Neither of us had been tubing before.
"Uh, Aspen?"
"Yeah?"
"Um, we've never tubed before." I explained, pointing to me and Eve. He raised his eyebrows.
"How are you still living!? You have to try it!" He grabbed our hands and helped us on the boat. It had nice leather interior and comfy seats. Ashton and Samantha called,
"We're going first!" They hopped on the tubes and Styles sped off. They were drenched with water. Eve and I almost fell off the boat and we clung to each other. Hunter and Luke were whooping and calling to Ashton. Luke and Marleen called going next, and then Hunter said he'd take Eve. Ashton fell off after three minutes, but Samantha held on until Styles slowed down. Ashton came back with a huge red spot on his stomach, and Samantha was laughing at him.
"Ha! Told you I could stay on longer!"
"Why don't you show me that tonight!"
"Maybe I will!" She exclaimed before he pulled her in and they kissed. Marleen and Luke got on and Rae drove this time. She made a ton of twists and turns, trying to make them fly off. Luke fell after five minutes. Yes, we were timing them. Samantha was throwing bits of sand at Marleen, trying to have her fall. Marleen fell two minutes after Luke, both of them were sore and red.
"That was awesome!" Luke said. Hunter and Eve crawled on, Eve looking scared. I gave her a sympathetic look and sat down next to Samantha. Hunter kissed her cheek and patted her back. She nodded and Rae started again. She wasn't as crazy as she was with the other two, but it was still pretty wild. Eve clutched the tube like her life depended on it. Once Hunter went flying, Eve let go and hit the water. They came up sputtering for air and laughing. As soon as they were back on the boat, Aspen took my hand. I was shaking with fear. He lifted my chin with his hand, so I was looking into his eyes. He smiled and said,
"It's ok, you'll see." Then he led me onto the tube. It was a little wobbly, and he showed me what to do. I held on because my life depended on it. Once Aspen was settled, he gave Rae the thumbs up. She started off slow, but the water was still spraying at us really strong. A fish came out and darted at us, making me scream. He yelled,
"It's ok, hold on!" Rae sped up a little, and all I could hear was the boats engine. I couldn't make out what Samantha and Marleen were yelling, but the boys were laughing and whooping for Aspen. Rae sped up, and the next thing I new, Aspen was gone. I was petrified now, and all I could think was, "omgomgomgomgomg! I'm gonna die!" I closed my eyes and screamed. Then Rae took a sharp turn, and I was left in the white bubbles of the lake. I spun around for a few seconds, before I was able to take control and swim to the surface. I gasped for breath, and I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Are you alright, Trish?" Aspen asked, still breathing hard. I nodded and we swam to the boat, where everyone was cheering.
"That was epic!" Samantha called, helping us in the boat. Aspen wrapped me in a towel and Rae and styles got on the tubes. We tubed until 3:00, then we all got out and made our way back to camp. Once everyone had toweled off and changed clothes, we started a fire and cooked the fish. I was wearing Aspen's sweatpants, and Rae stared at me.
"How'd you get Aspen's sweatpants?" Everyone stared at me then. Aspen smiled and explained the story, leaving out the part about Danny. Luke and Ashton awed him, and Samantha smiled at me. Then, when it was getting dark, Luke pulled out some random alcohol and stated,
"Ok, everyone. Time to play truth or dare!" Everyone took a seat around the campfire. Aspen sat next to me, and he gave me his jacket.
"Here, it's cold out."
"But won't you get cold?"
"Better me than you." He stated, staring at Luke who was starting the game. I blushed and listened.
"Ok, Hunter, truth or dare?"
"Truth."
"Would you bang Miss. Water?"
"Depends, does she have a disease?"
"No."
"Then probably." Everyone laughed and he turned to Rae.
"Rae, truth or dare?"
"Truth."
"Are you gonna marry styles?" He asked. She blushed and said,
"Maybe." We all rolled our eyes and styles put his arm around her. She turned to me.
"Trish, truth or dare?"
"Hmmm, dare." I stated.
"I dare you to let Aspen do your hair!" Everyone laughed and I sat there while Aspen attempted a ponytail. He gave up and just did pig tails. I laughed and turned to Marleen.
"Truth or dare?"
"Dare."
"I dare you kiss Luke." She shrugged and they made out. Everyone groaned and Samantha poked her cheek.
"Ok, that's enough. Your turn."
"Ok, Samantha, truth or dare?"
"Dare bitch! Bring it!"
"I dare you to punch the dumbest person here!"
"Ok," she got up and punched Aspen really hard. Aspen rubbed his arm.
"Ouch!"
"Don't be a baby! Now, Ashton, truth or dare?"
"Dare!"
"Ok," she tapped her chin," I dare you to impersonate me." He smiled and flipped his hair.
"Oo, look at me! My names Samantha, and I take twenty minutes to buy a stick of chap stick from Walmart."
"That was one time!" They laughed and sighed.
"Ok...Aspen! Truth or dare?"
" I say dare."
"I dare you toooo... Kiss the prettiest girl here, but not Samantha. She's my bae." They kissed each other and Aspen shrugged. He turned to me and kissed my cheek. His lips felt soft and they made me feel gooey. I blushed and said,
"What was that for?"
"He said to kiss the prettiest girl."
"Then why didn't you kiss Luke?" Everyone laughed and oohed at Luke. He was wide eyed and trying not to laugh.
"That wasn't funny!"
"Yes it was!" Marleen giggled. He rolled his eyes and said,
"Ok Trish, your turn."
"Styles, truth or dare?"
"Uh, dare."
"I dare you to climb up a tree and stay there for the rest of the game!" He whined and then climbed up a big tree. He clung on and called,
"Luke! Truth or dare?"
"Dare!"
"I dare you to eat a bug!" All the girls squirmed and Ashton handed Luke a worm. He ate it and then said,
"Ok, Hunter, truth or dare?"
"Truth."
"What would you do if Eve got pregnant?" Eve blushed and Hunter thought.
"I don't know, try and be a good dad?" He put his arm around Eve and looked at Rae.
"Truth or dare?"
"Dare."
"I dare you to pour pop on Aspen!" She smirked, grabbed a coke, and dumped it on Aspen. He screamed and threw fish guts at her. She screamed and stated,
"Hey! It was a dare!"
"I hope your happy!" He yelled. He pulled of his shirt and threw it in a bag. Samantha stared for a second, then she looked at me and smirked. I rolled my eyes and gave him back his jacket.
"No, it's ok, I'll just grab another shirt." He pulled on a black T-shirt and sat back down. Samantha asked,
"How'd you get those scars?" Aspen looked behind him and touched his back.
"These ones?"
"Yeah!"
"Well, I don't really remember where two of them came from, but one of them came because of a car accident I was in when I was little. The seat belt lashed me when the car stopped rolling. I needed 75 stitches." We all wowed and Luke called,
"Ok, ghost story time!" We all giggled and Luke told us about a ghost in the woods that ate anyone named Marleen. Ashton told us about a cereal killer who'd murder us in our sleep. Then Samantha told a story about a hook man, and Eve scared the crap out of Hunter by sneaking up behind him with a hanger. We told stories until about 8:45. I yawned and went to lay down. After about twenty minutes, Aspen came to lay with me. Eve, Hunter, Rae and styles were still up, but the others had gone to their tent for 'grown up time.' Aspen came and laid next to me. He stared at me and asked,
"Trish?"
"Yeah?"
"Is it ok if I put my arm here?" He asked while wrapping his arm around my waist. I smiled and replied,
"Sure." We laid in silence for a while. Then Aspen asked,
"Trish?"
"Yes?"
"Thanks for coming. I didn't think you'd wanna hang out with someone like me."
"Why not? Your a fun guy to be around. It's not like I was gonna do anything this weekend anyways." We were quiet for a little bit. Then he started again,
"Trish?"
"Yes, Aspen?"
"I meant what I did earlier. You are the prettiest girl here." I felt my cheeks getting redder.
"Thanks, Aspen. Your the only person besides Bethany who tells me that."
"You need someone to tell you more often. I don't think you really know your pretty." He nuzzled his head in my hair.
"I don't feel to pretty when I'm at school."
"Why? Because of those snotty rich girls? People tell them their pretty when they really aren't. It's different with you. You are absolutely gorgeous, but no one tells you, because they figure some one must tell you everyday."
"It's thoughtful of you to think like that."
"I mean it, Trish. You are pretty. Don't ever let anyone tell you different." I felt a tear sting my eye, but I held it back.
"Goodnight, Aspen. Thanks for bringing me here."
"You're welcome, Trish. Goodnight." We laid in the darkness until drowsiness took hold. Hunter and Eve came in not too long after Aspen fell asleep. They were drunk and giggling.
"Hunter, we need to go to the car!" Hunter kissed her and laughed.
"Why? They won't wake up! We'll be quiet!"
"No, only in the car!" Eve said, grabbing the keys and leading him out to the car. I fell asleep eventually, and began to dream. I dreamt I was lying in the wheat field with Aspen. We laid in the rays of sunlight, staring into each others eyes. He said something, but I didn't hear it. Then I sat up, and looked to the left. A huge swarm of bugs were blotting out the sun. I turned back to Aspen, but he'd disappeared. The bugs were coming closer, and I ran to the two bedroom house. Once I reached the porch, I stared at the knob. It turned by itself, and pushed open slightly. I was going to run away, but the bugs were within three feet of me. As I leaped inside, the door slammed shut. I got up, locked it, and leaned against the door, gasping for air. The whole house creaked, and I saw my dad in the kitchen, yelling at the phone. I tried to be quiet, but a floor board came loose, and I fell to the basement. When I landed, I saw a bloody bag in the corner of the room. It was moaning and rocking back and forth. I went to touch it, but then it started laughing,
"All your fault! All your fault!" It cackled over and over again. I cried and covered my ears.
"Stop!"
"All your fault!" It turned to a demonic voice. I shut my eyes and curled up. Suddenly, it stopped. I worked up the courage to peek out from my hands. The bag was lying on the floor, and a skeleton was in my face.
"Ha!" It laughed while it dragged me to a grave in the floor.
"Noooo!" I screamed.
