A dull glow

It feels... cold.

What was I doing again?

I can feel paper, and something like a pen?

It's pretty bright... and my neck hurts.

"Percy?"

"Guaah!" I wake up, startled.

"You've been staying up all night again, haven't you?"

"Yes," I say nervously.

"Don't be too hard on yourself, you've been through a lot, get some rest."

"I'm sorry mom, I will," I say, yawning.

"Now sleep, I don't want you getting sick," She says sternly.

"Goodnight." I say, forgetting what happened next as I willingly let sleep embrace me.

"-ou have really low scores Perseus, what's wrong with you?" I hear as she stares down at me. It's not my fault I'm dyslexic and dumb.

Did I even have a choice in who I wanted my father to be? I never wanted this life, why are you angry at me? I know I did something wrong, but why are you rubbing it in? Please stop.

"I'm really sorry ma'am, but I think you know from my file that I have problems regarding my reading competency and my concentration problem," I say, trying to focus on the person in front of me.

"But still! This is not even that hard, and you still don't understand?!" She glowered.

"I'm really sorry ma'am but I tried my best." I say through gritted teeth.

"Just- go home, it's getting late." She finally said, but still angry at me.

"Thank you." I murmur as I stand to walk out the door.

It's been years since I last saw everyone... even her.
I've been studying in community college for over a year now, and I still live with my mom and Paul. My dad never sees me because I don't let him, and monsters don't attack me anymore since my wish.

But anyway, I can use phones now! Isn't that cool? I can take pictures, write stuff, heck, even call my mom without wasting drachmas! It's a special technology given to the demigods so that we have better communication, but the gods can still see our information, so it still invaded my privacy and- woah! What the heck was that?

"Who is it?" Oh, right, I forgot to mention, I actually have night classes on Tuesdays so I'm in a rather dark alley 15 minutes away from my school.

"Are you a demigod?" Asked the offender.

"Well, depends who's asking," I reply, creeping my hand to my pocket.

"Antonio Hernández, commissioner of the MPDA." A tall man with a slight Mexican accent says.

"Then why'd you shoot me like that?!" I exclaimed, getting ready to unsheath Riptide. It's been a long time my friend.

"Well, it seems that there is a civil war brewing in the Greco-Roman Pantheons, and we have observed that you have cut ties with them. Correct?" He asked.

"Yes. What's that to you?" I answer, still in a battle stance. To my surprise, he laughed.

"They're going to ruin New York, Perseus! Unless... you go as a Greco-Roman MPDA representative. Or do you want them to kill millions of people that you tried so hard to save?" He smiled, though it seems cold and not humorous, like, at all.

"Okay. Question. What's the MPDA?" I asked.

"It means Multi Pantheon Demigods Association."

"Wait, Multi Pantheon?!"

"Yes, if Norse, Egyptian, Roman and Greek gods exist. Other gods should exist, no?"

"So... are you a demigod too?" I asked, now curious.

"Yes, Son of Camazoztz, pleasure to meet you." He held out a hand, his eyes flashing dark green then back to onyx black.

"Don't mind the eyes, they're like the Mayan children's birthmark." He continued.

"How can I trust you?"

"You know about the MPDA, my full name and my job, if you so discreetly leak this information to any God or Goddess, my life could possibly be in danger, given that I cannot protect myself at a certain moment." He said confidently.

"Then swear it." I say, still untrusting.

"I swear on the Styx that the information I disclose is true."

"Last question. What's a representative's job?" I finally blurted, feeling comforted just by a little bit.

"Well, Perseus, follow me." He gestured, a triumphant smile donning his face.

"Wait, I have to call my mom."

After the call, I followed Antonio to a small office in an old building.

"We're here." He says suddenly, stopping at a door with a plaque that I couldn't read because it's dark.

"This is it?"

"Watch."

He grabbed the bottom of the plaque and lifted it up a bit to show two laser thingys.

Then it showed some words.

Request Accepted. Antonio Hernandez.

"Welcome, to the MPDA office."
