Chapter 20

~ 5 Months Later ~

Harry has been really helpful during all my physio sessions. Nathan still doesn't know what's going on but, I can finally feel my legs. As well as physio, I have been going to the hospital so the doctors can keep an eye on my nerves and joints in my legs.

I was currently at physio, getting help from Harry to stand up. I hold onto the frame and try to take one step. I slipped and ended up falling a few times before I was able to take one step forward.

"There we go, Eva. You're doing great." Harry says as I smile and feel so proud of myself.

I am finally able to take a few more steps before Harry turns to me.

"Do you want to try without the frame?" Harry says as I look at him, absolutely terrified.
"I... I don't know. Do you think I'm ready?" I ask as Harry smiles.
"Eva, you've been standing up and using the frame to try and walk for the past 2 weeks. I think you're ready." Harry says as I look at Kaelynn who was currently playing on my phone. 

Kaelynn was the only who knew I was doing this and she had no idea what I was doing so there was no way that Nathan would find out, right?

"Kae. Shall mummy try to walk without the frame?" I ask her as she smiles at me and nods enthusiastically before going back to her game on my phone, "Okay, Harry. I'm ready to try to walk. For my daughter and my husband." I say as Harry nods.
"Okay. Hold onto the handle over there while I take the frame away." Harry says before instructing me to take a few steps with the handle, "Now, slowly let go of the handle." He adds on as I do what he says.

I couldn't believe it. I was stood up on my own. I was actually standing.

"Eva, turn towards your daughter and take a few steps forward." I do as he says and I couldn't live it was actually working, "Kaelynn. Pay attention to your mummy and ask her to come to you." Harry says as Kaelynn nods and starts asking me to go to her for a cuddle.

I wanted to hold her in my arms that bad that I wasn't even focusing on the physical activity I was doing. I eventually made it to Kaelynn and picked her up, giving her a cuddle.

"Mummy, you're walking." She whispered as I snapped into reality and looked around me.

Kaelynn was right. I was walking. I was actually walking.

Once I got home, I was back in my wheelchair and invited everyone around for the big reveal once Nathan was home. Of course, I would carry on going to physio until I was stronger but, I was finally walking and I could finally feel my legs. I was still a bit wobbly but, over time, that would change.

Nathan arrived home shortly after and my family came over as they all gave hugs.

"Okay, so Kaelynn saw something really special today and I wanted to show you guys too." I say as they look at me confused.
"Woah, Woah. Eva. What are you doing?" Nathan asks as I try to pull myself out of my chair, "You're going into a state of denial again, aren't you?" Nathan asks as I shake my head and smile at him.
"Just wait." I say before putting my feet on the ground and pulling myself up out of my chair and holding onto the mantlepiece, "Kae, do what you did earlier." I say as she starts asking me for a cuddle.

I wobble a bit but finally walk over to Kaelynn and give her a cuddle.

Nathan and the rest of my family sit there, not saying anything.

"So?" I ask my mum starts to cry and gives me a cuddle along with my dad, my brothers and my sister.
"Oh, Eva. You're walking again." My mum says as I giggle and give them all a big hug.

I look at Nathan as he sits there, looking confused.

"H... How?" He asks as I smile.
"I started to see a private physio trainer. I wanted to surprise you and have a normal life with you and our daughter." I say as I see tears start to fall from Nathan's eyes, "Nath?" I question as he stands up and engulfs me in a big hug.
"So, what do you need to do to maintain this?" Nathan asks as I explain how I've got to try and use my legs as much as possible and how I've got to try to not use my chair anymore, "I'm gonna film this for Jackson and my parents." Nathan says as I nod and pick up Kaelynn.

I start to walk around while holding Kaelynn, still wobbling, fo the video. Nathan sends it to his family and Jackson before giving me a hug again.

I've still got a long way to go before I can walk fully but, I'm prepared to do everything I can.

I was determined to do this for my family.
