Chapter 16: Bella gives Birth and the Wolves attack

Jake led Leah and Seth close to where the pack laid in wait to distract them so the others could leave and hunt. I found myself in the living room once more with Bella and Rose talking about baby names when Jake returned. Rose talked Bella out of a few names and when Jake walked into the room Bella shared them with him.

"If it's a boy EJ, Edward Jacob." Bella told the wolf.

"Okay, fine it's not that bad." Rose said, causing me to giggle.

"Tell him the name for the girl." I tell Bella softly.

"I was playing around with our mom's names, Renee and Esme. And I was thinking, Renesmee."

Jacob repeated the name and I went to make Bella's final cup of blood. I walked back in and handed it to her when it happened. Her back broke. Edward moved to catch his wife's head before she hit the floor and picked her up and carried her into the office. I threw my phone to Alice with the instructions to call Carlisle as Edward gave Bella a shot of morphine.

"He says the placenta must've detached!" Alice said. "He's coming as fast as he can."

"We'll have to do it." Rose said. Edward stopped her for a moment before Bella begged them to get the baby out.

Rose slid the scalpel across Bella's stomach. Jake tries to distract Bella as she screams out in pain. I catch sight of Rose's look as the scent of blood fills the air.

I tackled Rose before she had the chance to bite the human. "Alice get her out of here."

"Save her!" Jake begs as I rejoin Edwards' side. "You gotta change her."

"He can't not while the baby is still in there." I tell the wolf. "We gotta get him out first."

Edward rips into the embryonic sac with his teeth and pulls the baby out.

"It's Renesmee." Edward breaths out showing Bella after cleaning the newborn off a little. He hands her to Bella but quickly takes the child away as she bites Bella. He tries to hand the child to Jake who growls.

"I got her Edward." I tell my brother. "Now save your wife." I take the baby out of the room and meet Rose in the hallway. We go clean off the child all the while listening to Bella's heart. I ran up to my room where we had placed some baby blankets and grabbed one to take to Rose. I ran into Jacob who stormed out of the office with tears streaming down his face. I looked into the room and saw Edward was still working on Bella. I shook my head and went back to Rose and handed her the blanket to wrap Renesmee in. She began cooing at the smiling child and I turned back to see Jacob coming toward us. He suddenly fell to his knees and had a look of adoration.

I heard distant howling and left the room and joined Alice and Jasper outside. The wolves appeared out of the woods and growled.

"We're outnumbered." Jasper said as Edward joined us after I heard him throw Jake into the wall. 'You idiot. Jake's the way out of this. She's his imprint they can't touch her.' I thought toward Edward.

"By a lot." Alice added.

"I won't let them hurt my family." Edward stated. At that the wolves move to attack. I felt bad as I fought back since I considered the wolves to be family. I looked over and saw Alice on the ground trying to hold back Paul. I whistled causing the wolf to turn to me. I ran toward him and pushed him off my sister. I was suddenly surrounded by Embry, Jared, and Paul. Emmett and the others appeared and began helping us as did Leah and Seth.

Jacob suddenly ran out of the house and jumped in between Sam and the door. "Stop. It's over." Jacob told his former alpha causing the others to stop fighting. "If you kill her you kill me." Sam tries to get past Jacob but he quickly phases and growls.

"Jacob imprinted." Edward said. "They can't hurt her."

"Whoever a wolf imprints on can't be harmed." I added. I looked directly into Sam's eyes. "It's your most absolute law."

Sam finally backed down and the rest of the pack left. We went inside. Jake and I go back to Renesmee, Alice and Esme upstairs to clean Bella. I took Renesmee from Rose so she could help the other two with Bella. I could hear Edward doubt himself about saving Bella before I tuned in to listen to her slow beating heart and waited.

Everyone took turns holding Renesmee as we waited for the transitioning Bella to wake up. The others also took a chance to go hunting as did I. When we returned to the living room on the third day we waited while keeping the gifted infant occupied. Edward remained in the room where Bella was when we heard her heartbeat one last time before I heard her eyes snap open.
