It was snowing. Jacob -who was in wolf form- Bella, Renesmee, and I were walking in the woods with Renesmee catching the occasional snowflake. I smiled at my niece as she jumped into the air and caught another before she ran towards the three of us.
"Who's that." Renesmee asked, causing both Bella and I to look into the distance.
"Irina." I said. "Stay with Jake." Bella and I ran to where Irina was but she was already gone.
The two of us ran back to Renesmee and Jake before we took off to the Cullen house. I told Carlisle what happened.
"Seeing Jacob must've been too much for her." Esme said. I stayed silent and let the matter drop. I found myself back in the same tree from all those months ago when Charlie came over. I knew that wasn't it. I knew in the back of my mind that it was Renesmee that caused her to run.
If Renesmee had been a normal human she wouldn't be able to jump as far up in the air like she was able to. Since Irina saw her from the distance I knew what was possibly going through my cousins mind. I just didn't know how to put it out there for the others to think about it.
Alec's POV
I was standing in the throne room with my sister and the masters when the blonde Denali walked in. I recognized her as Irina. I was slightly curious as to why she was here.
"What a pleasant surprise." Aro spoke.
"What do you want?" Caius asked, getting straight to the point.
"I have to report a crime." Irina started before turning to face me. "The Cullen's... They've done something terrible." She added. I wanted to move toward her and ask her what she meant.
"Allow me, my dear." Aro said as he flashed in front of her and took her hand. "Oh my." Aro then turned and faced me. "It seems that the Cullen's have created an immortal child. And Alexis knows about it."
I couldn't believe it. My mate wouldn't break the law like that. Not now when we were so close to being together. I stormed out of the throne room and towards my own private quarters. I didn't notice that Jane, Felix, Demetri, and Luna followed after me.
"Alec stop." Luna said. "She wouldn't break the law, you know that. She's the one who gave the redhead the ultimatum. Do you really think that she would stand by the Cullen's if they created an Immortal Child."
"She'd stand by her family that much is clear. Luna has a point though." Demetri said, agreeing with his mate.
"She took a risk when she came with Alice to save her brother from death. She could've gone eternity without ever coming here." Jane said. "Without ever meeting you and letting us know about her."
I blocked them out. I needed to think but all I kept thinking about was those rare phone calls two weeks after the wedding. She sounded drained as if she couldn't seem to think straight. I thought it just meant she kept putting off hunting. We eventually returned to the throne room where the masters gave us the order to gather witnesses and that we would be going to Forks by the end of December.
Alexis's POV
We were gathered in the living room listening as both father and daughter played the piano. Alice walked in carrying a vase of flowers when it happened; we both were sucked into the vision as she dropped the flowers. The Volturi, the whole guard, even the wives were coming after us and Irina.
"What'd you see Lex, Alice." Someone asked.
"The Volturi. They're coming for us." Alice began.
"Aro, Marcus, Caius, the guard including the wives. Irina too." I told them.
"What'd Irina see in the woods?" Edward asked his wife.
"We're were just walking." Bella told him.
"Ness was catching snowflakes." Jacob said.
"From the distance Irina was at, she could've thought Renesmee was an immortal child." I added. I saw and felt the fear that flashed through everyone's eyes and the confusion from Jake and Bella.
Bella looked confused, so we all sat down for a history lesson.
"Immortal Children were very beautiful, so enchanting. To be near them was to love them, but their development was frozen at the age they were turned. They couldn't be taught or restrained, and a single tantrum could destroy an entire village. Humans heard about the devastation. Stories spread and the Volturi were forced to intervene. Since the children couldn't protect our secret they had to be destroyed." Carlisle explained before turning to me knowing I practically had the story memorized.
"Irina, Tanya, and Kate's sire and mother -Sasha- created an immortal child. She grew very attached and fought to protect her son, Vasilii. Long established covens were torn apart and countless humans slaughtered. Traditions, friends, even families lost. The sisters never knew about Vasilii though so they were spared. Sasha, however, paid the price." I said as I thought back to the first time Irina told me the story of how they lost their mother.
"Renesmee's nothing like those children. She was born not bitten. She grows every single day." Bella yelled.
"Can't you just explain that to the Volturi?" Jake asked, looking at me.
"They won't listen. Aro has enough proof in Irina's thoughts." Edward said.
"So we fight." Jake told him.
"Their offensive weapons are too powerful. No one can stand against Jane." Jasper said. Everyone seemed to hesitate.
"My mate's even worse." I said looking at the ground.
"Well then we convince them." Bella said.
"They're coming to kill us, Isabella." I spit out hatefully. I was angry I hadn't gone after Irina. Jasper sent a huge wave of calmness towards me. "Not talk. I've risked a lot for this family. For you to become Immortal. Now I have to sacrifice my own happiness for my niece. Even if it means I have to lose Alec."
"Wait. Bella's right." Edward spoke up. "So is Alexis. They won't listen to us even with a Volturi's mate with us. Maybe others can convince them. Carlisle you have friends all over the world."
"I won't ask them to fight." Carlisle replied.
"Not fight." I said catching on to what Edward was thinking. "Witness. If enough people knew the truth, maybe we could convince the Volturi to listen."
Esme turned toward her mate. "We can ask this of our friends."
Everyone made plans to gather witnesses. I walked over to Carlisle.
"What about my brothers?" I ask the patriarch of the family. "I'm sure they can put away their thirst for revenge to help us. Besides it will definitely make the Volturi stop as well."
"Okay. You'll travel to Romania, but Alexis be careful."
I nodded and ran to my room and began packing a duffel bag full of clothes. I also changed into a pair of black jeans and matching tank top along with my leather jacket and a pair of black heels. I left not long after and ran for Romania.
