Harry woke with a start the next morning, and woke Ron up as well. With a cranky mutter and a slight growl, Ron got ready.

They had compared each other's schedules and saw that Harry and Ron had classes together, which made them look more forward the day; besides the heavy feeling of dread thinking about Potions.

They headed down to the common room, their bags slung across their shoulders, and searched for Hermione. A few minutes later, she arrived in the common room, a smile on her face, and her hair up in a messy bun. She walked over to Harry and gave him a hug, as well as Ron, who looked rather surprised at the happiness she was exerting.

"You're joyful today." Ron said, looking her up and down skeptically.
"New year." She said, beaming at both of them. "Come on, breakfast is waiting."
Harry and Ron exchanged looks, and followed her behind out of the common room.

They arrived at the Great Hall within a few minutes, and sat down for breakfast. The students surrounding them looked rather bored, and Harry felt the same way. Thinking about the day ahead caused him stress, and he felt a wave of comfort when he felt Hermione reach and grab his hand. He turned and looked at her with a smile.

"Where are we going first?" Asked Ron, before they left the Great Hall after they had finished up breakfast.
"Herbology." Harry sighed. He looked over at Hermione, who had snuck a peak at her schedule as well. "I have Ancient Runes." She said. "I guess I'll have to see you guys later." She smiled at them, and with a wave, headed to her next class. "Bye, Hermione." They said, and headed out to Herbology.

On the way, Harry and Ron overheard an interesting subject going on between Malfoy and his two henchmen, Crabbe and Goyle. They had walked up about midway into the conversation, but stopped to listen.
"That Granger thinks she's all that." Said Draco, his face covered with a large scowl. "The poor girl thinks that Potter is the most perfect thing in the world. All their lovey-dovey conversations and holding hands makes me want to vomit." Harry could feel his face get red with anger. How dare he insult their relationship. He felt Ron put a hand on his back, as though to keep him from storming off over to Malfoy.
"Honestly, I don't see what she sees in him." He grumbled. That was the last straw for Harry. He was about to burst, and said loudly, "Jealous, Malfoy?"

Draco turned around and furrowed his brow at the sight of Harry, and immediately shot back, "This has nothing to do with you, Potter. Butt out of my conversation, please."
It was silent for a moment between the two of them. "I'm starting to think you have a thing for my girlfriend." Harry said quietly.
Draco was silent, then said in a hoarse whisper, "I would never dream of dating that mudblood. Please, you keep her. You two are made for each other; both pointless pieces of muggle trash."

Harry pulled out his wand, and aimed it at Malfoy's forehead. "What did you call--"
But Ron had leapt up and grabbed Harry's arm, in effort to pull him back. "Don't waste your time on him Harry! Let's go!"
Harry gave Malfoy a dirty look, then put his wand back in his robes and headed back towards Herbology.
"If he ever makes a move on Hermione, I'll turn him into a ferret."

After class, they met up with Hermione and headed to History of Magic. Harry felt as if he had fire burning in the pit of his stomach. The event earlier with Malfoy had made him furious. Hermione seemed to, somehow, notice him tense up, and she interlocked her hand with his. "You alright?" Hermione asked. Before heading into to classroom, they passed a group of Slytherins, and Harry replied, "I'll tell you later."

History of Magic was just like it always was; boring. Harry stuck through it to the end; somehow, not falling asleep.

They left the class headed towards the Great Hall for lunch. Harry hoped he'd get in a better mood about the first day of classes, but as he began to think about what was ahead, he didn't really feel like eating.

The trio took a seat on the two benches of the Gryffindor table, and began to eat. But as for Harry, he pushed his plate out of the way and rested his head on his hand. Hermione turned and looked at him, a frown on her face. "Harry, tell me what's wrong."
Harry looked at her, and thought about telling her the truth; that the one boy he despised more than anything (besides Dudley) might have a thing for his girlfriend, or he could play it off, and act like it was nothing that was bothering him.
"I just have a lot of homework that's all." He says quietly. Hermione stared at him, still frowning. "That's all? There's nothing else wrong?"
Harry was quiet. "Just not looking forward to Snape's torture today. I promise Hermione, I'm alright."
She put her hand in his, and they interlocked their fingers. "Okay, Harry." She smiled slightly.

The rest of the day went just as Harry expected; rough. He didn't think anything more of it. He walked back to the common room with Ron and Hermione after dinner, and felt tremendously tired. When they arrived in the common room, Ron departed up the stairs to the boy's dormitory, wishing Hermione goodnight. Harry told him he'd be up in a minute, and Ron nodded.

"Didn't you want to tell me something, Harry?" Hermione said, looking up at him. Harry was quiet, afraid to tell her what was on his mind, and instead, plastered a big smile on his face. "Nothing. It's fine."

There was a moment of silence, then Hermione said quietly, "Alright, then. Good night, Harry," then kissed him lightly on the lips.

Harry felt his face heat up as she waved him goodbye. He couldn't help but grin, a bit of happiness in him. He soon left the warmth of the common room and headed upstairs.
