"Hey James, whatcha working on over there".
James quickly turns his head around to see an old man in a thick red suit. The lead researcher George Thompson is standing behind him with a cup of coffee in one hand and a blanket in another while having his cheeky grin that is barely visible under his grey beard.
"Oh oh this? It's just a d-detector for s-signs of life u-underground!" James quickly responds. "James, we're in Antarctica. You won't find life underground. Also here a blanket. Your stuttering is even worse with how cold it is around here. Also you haven't slept all night. It's pretty astounding how our planet can have incredibly hot and incredibly cold zones. How about I get you a cup of hot chocolate to warm you up?"
"B-But Mr. Thom-" James was not able to finish his sentence due to getting a blanket thrown into his face. After he managed to get the blanket off his head he wrapped it around himself. It was a big grey fuzzy blanket and it reminded him of Thompsons beard. He let out a chuckle, but then started thinking.
What do they mean with no life underground? Yesterday I heard noises and the others did too, we even saw something run away from us during our cave expedition. Did they somehow forget? Did they forget about Tommy too?
Thompson came back with a cup of hot chocolate and handed it to James. He sat down next to him. "James I know you're still shocked about having lost Tommy when the cave collapsed but-"
"THE CAVE N-NEVER COLLAPSED THOMPSON HE GOT D-DRAGGED AWAY FROM US BY SOMETHING HOW DO YOU F-FORGET THAT!"
"Now now James, stop screaming. Calm down. I only know the cave collapsed behind us. Tommy was at the back of the pack. And there simply can't be life this deep underground in Antarctica. You probably just imagined it. Now get some rest."
Thompson gave James a smile. Thompson left the room once again.
I'm sure Tommy got grabbed by some sort of creature. There's no way he just slipped and the rocks collapsed in on him.
Suddenly a wave of tiredness washes over James and he falls asleep.
