"We'll be okay, cousin." Raven hoped her words would stop Draco from crying in her arms. He rarely cried, it wasn't something anyone in their family did. Raven cried once, only once that she could remember anyways. In forth year she had cried because of Cedric Diggory, the two weren't close, Raven didn't even like him much. She didn't like him so much that she'd made fun of him right before his final trial in the Goblet Of Fire, right before he died.It struck a horrible and painful guilt in her heart, even to this day it was the only thing that made her ever cry.
Draco was rarely emotional either. At times he'd curl up in Ravens lap and cry about pressure he was under, but it was usually only once ever few years. Raven knew it couldn't be easy for him now if he was crying, crying over the vanishing cabinet. And Raven wasn't dumb, she knew exact why he'd been crying.
She knew that the both of them would be killed soon if they couldn't execute Dumbledore. And by the looks of it as of now, it wasn't looking good for either of them.
"So tell me, Cormac, you see anything of your uncle Tiberius these days?" Slughorn asked the curly haired boy who sat on the other side of Blaise who sat next to Raven, picking at her pudding and barely keeping her eyes open.
"Yes sir. In fact, i'm meant to go hunting with him and the Minister Of Magic over the holidays." Cormac spoke to the professor. Hermione watched Raven oddly, watching as she drifted off before pulling her head up quickly.
"What's wrong with her, you think?" Hermione whispered over to Harry, a frown to her thick eyebrows as the two watched Raven blink multiple times and rub her eyes, trying to pay attention but failing miserably.
"Don't know." Harry spoke with a shrug, "Maybe she's in on something with Malfoy."
Harry had accused the Malfoy boy for Katie's curse just the day before, he didn't think Raven was involved but from the ways shes been acting, the way she'd been coddling Draco in the hallway the night before that only Harry saw was causing suspense to form.
"And what about you, Miss Granger? What does your family do in the muggle world?" Slughorn asked. Raven rolled her tired eyes as she focused her gaze to Hermione who hesitated to speak.
"My parent are Dentist." Hermione spoke as they all turned to look and her oddly, she'd caught Raven whispering over to Blaise in confusion.
"Is that what they call their filthy mating rituals?" Raven asked now with a glare but it was obvious she was very curious, only didn't want Hermione to think she was interest in any way.
"No!" Hermione defended them quickly toward the pure blood, "They tend to peoples teeth."
"Fascinating." Slughorn gushed with wide eyes and a friendly smile, "And is that considered a dangerous profession?"
"No. Although, one boy, Robbie Fenwick, did bite my father once. He needed ten stitches." Hermione laughed as all the wizards at the table stayed silent while staring at her oddly. The opening off the door cut Hermiones embarrassment short as a sad looking Ginny Weasley walked in.
"Ah, Miss Weasley. Come in, come in." Slughorn rushed the redhead girl in. Raven almost said something to her, almost mocked her for being poor or for her bright red hair. That was until she already saw the faint tears in her eyes and kept her mouth shut until later.
"Sorry, i'm not usually late." Ginny said with a clear of her throat, Harry stood up quickly as everyone look at him oddly.
"Merlin." Raven commented in a whispered toward Blaise, "Those Gryffindors are so odd."
"Very." Blaise agreed with her, a single nod.
"No matter. You're just in time for desert, that is, if Belby left you any." Slughorn laughed, much like Hermiones story, everyone around him was silent. Everyone began to eat at their pudding again before Raven noticed Hermione shifting uncomfortable every few seconds, looking over at Cormac who wasn't taking his eyes off her no matter how uncomfortable she made it seem she was.
Raven, only because she knew the feeling, glared at the curly haired boy. Blaise watched her in confusion, the Black daughter sneaking her wand from the waist band of her green skirt. She held her wand under the table, praying she was focused on Cormac enough before mumbling a quick spell under her breath.
His pudding had spilt all over his lap as he hurried up.
Raven stiffed a laugh by biting on her knuckles.
"Bit of a spill, Cormac?" Raven asked him, trying to bite her grin away as Slughorn passed him the napkin. Hermione looked to her just in time to see her put her wand away, though Raven couldn't see her at the moment.... Hermione smiled.
"Goodbye everyone." Slughorn wished everyone as they left the room later that night, all going their separate ways. Hermione watched Raven say something to Blaise before he nodded and headed toward the Slytherin common room while Raven took the opposite hallway. Hermione followed after her, staying far behind but close enough to watch where she was going.
It didn't take too long to get to the destination Raven was headed, behind the castle and right before the forbidden forest. Hermione hid behind the small door as she watched Raven reach inside a hole in the tree to pull out her arrows and bow. Hermione had seen Raven plenty of times preform Archery, and yet she still sat and watched her shoot at a tree.
That was until a arrow shot right next to her head and into the wooden door. Hermione gasped as she stood still with wide eyes, barely even seeing Raven turn so fast to shoot at her.
"Why are you following me, Granger?" Raven asked her in disbelief, a glare on her sharp features as she walked over.
"I was far from following you." Hermione defended herself.
"So what do you call that? Observing? Lingering close behind? Watching?" Raven asked as she stood close infront of Hermione to pull the arrow from the door behind look at her, "Admiring?"
"Admiring? Have you gone mad?" Hermione asked sarcastically with a laugh and a cross of her arms, a smirk on Ravens rosy lips as she backed away to go back to her original spot.
"What is it you want from me then?" Raven asked with a hum at the end of her sentence, shooting a arrow again as the inside of her fingers blistered even more.
"I only wanted to thank you, for Cormac." Hermione said as Raven laughed to herself and looked over her shoulder with a knowing look.
"I didn't do that for you." Raven argued with a raise of her perfectly sculpted eyebrows before pulling another arrow again, "I did that on behalf of all girls, we've all been there before."
"Still." Hermione said, silence over coming them as Raven shot another arrow, Hermione took it as her que to leave as she opened the wooden door again before she heard it.
"Any time."
