The sunlight coming from the window blurs into sight, is this what true warmth feels like with the person you love the rest of you cold but the perfect feeling of being in some ones arms. Like feeling the cold feet but the warmth on your chest where her hand lies, The shallow breathing keeping perfect harmony with her heartbeat.

I feel my feet hit the ground as the bed rises after me it was almost impossible to pry Ellie's arms off of me, she is the perfect person to cuddle with. It's been two months with Ellie and I decided to do something special for our anniversary today seeing as last time we forgot since we were both on patrol killing clickers and two bloaters. It's kind of hard to remember when all you're thinking about is being silent while trying not to die at least it wasn't just me though because  Ellie forgot too.

The perfect anniversary covered in blood and filth.... it's fine because today I get to go all out and fix up what I had planned. Picking up the pans from the cupboards I set everything up and looked at the cookbook I got from the chef in the village. "Aha!" I said to myself a little bit too loud "oh shit" I whispered to myself I went silent to see if I could hear Ellie in the other room.

Silence.

As I shrugged I went back to my thoughts

anyways I have decided on pancakes and strawberry cheesecake. 

I got my flour, the baking powder, the salt, the sugar, the milk, and the eggs and got to making the pancakes from scratch. Since this is a special occasion I'm making it old fashioned but it's not like you would have everything like pre-made meals during an apocalypse anyways. After I finished the pancakes and finished the cheesecake I checked on Ellie and somehow she was still sleeping she looked so peaceful... I breathed in the cool air and turned my back when suddenly I felt a cushion hit the back of my head making me both jump and fall.

"What are you doing?"

Damn I guess she wasn't actually sleeping this time.

"Why did you do that Ellie?"

I said from the wooden floor

I paused with frustration and we both just laughed knowing we both didn't quite expect what happened.

"Happy anniversary asshole!" 

still giggling I finished what i was planning on saying before being assaulted by a pillow.

"don't come out yet Ellie I have things to set up you woke up at the perfect time."

" I woke up once I heard the AHA!"

Ellie emphasised the aha with volume and a horrible impression of my voice.

"That is not what I sound like el"

"Ok you get the point, I've been laying here journaling assuming you were doing something important anyway.  You sounded like you were in the middle of a war I've never heard more pans banging and excited noises in my life"

Do I make that many noises when I'm excited?

It's so cute when people pick up on the tiny things.

AHEM FOCUS

" I'm not that loud Ellie maybe you just have good hearing"

"Ok whatever y/n"

I scurried out of the room and took everything out of the oven that I left in to stay warm. I ended up putting icing on the cheesecake that read,

"happy anniversary " in white on top of the red icing.  
I put butter, powdered sugar, strawberries, and syrup on the pancakes and called out to Ellie.

"El it's ready!"

Ellie practically dove out the door and walked slowly  to the counter. I couldn't help but notice how good she looks I mean as always but it was just something about today that made her look prettier. Maybe it was the lighting? Her eyes never looked greener, her hair was put half up but it still hung perfectly over her face, the way she walked out in just her button up and the jeans she just put on.

She still looked perfect in all her simplicity

I hope to always be like this with her forever

"This looks amazing y/n"

I didn't even realise Ellie came up to the table I guess my thoughts are louder than usual today.

"Thanks El it's all for us.. I decided to make it special"

Ellie's eyes started watering and that's when I realised this is real, I have made it to what I've been waiting for forever. The love of my life feeling intense emotion all because of me, bringing raw feeling out because of an act of love. Seems like suddenly nothing matters but the feelings being shared between us.

"Aw el stop you're gonna make me cry"

El sniffles

"Never has anyone done something like this for me"

Suddenly my tears blur my vision too but this is only happiness

"Well today is the day Ellie because you deserve this and much more"

She wipes her tears and stands in front of me and suddenly the space was closed I felt her warmth again and her chapped lips against mine.

"Suddenly I truly believe you can find someone who can turn your whole world around"
