Chapter Seven

Weiss

As I was getting the coffee for me and Ruby, I took a glance out of the café window and noticed some Halloween decorations being set up in the store across from us. "That's right, I forgot that Halloween was coming up, I wonder why Ruby never mentioned it." I wondered to myself as I payed for the two coffees and the took them back to our table where Ruby was staring at her scroll. "Earth to Ruby."

Ruby shook her head slightly and then looked up and smiled a bit. "Oh, hey, what's up?"

"I brought your coffee silly." I replied with a playfully smile and put it in front of her then sat down across from her. "Hey, can I ask you something?"

Ruby nodded after setting her scroll down and took a sip of her coffee and I swear I saw her whole body jitter with energy. "Sure, what's up?"

"I kinda forgot Halloween was coming up soon, but you seem like the kinda girl who would love the holiday." I said, taking a sip of my coffee then giggled a bit and glanced at her. "When you're not working anyway."

Ruby looked up from her drink and sighed softly and set it down. "I'll be honest, every year Yang throws a big Halloween party at her place and she always invites me and all our old friends from school. So I kinda don't think about it too much."

"That sounds like it could be fun, I'm assuming everyone wears a costume too?" I smiled slightly and held my drink close.

Ruby nodded again. "Yeah, but Yang's costume is always....weird."

"Weird, what do you mean by weird?" I asked, tilting my head slightly in confusion.

Ruby sighed and took another sip of her drink. "Let me just say, we never let her answer the door when kids come to trick or treat because of her outfit."

I thought about it for a minute before I realized what she was talking about and my eyes widened. "Oh, really?"

Ruby giggled softly and took another sip and smiled. "Yeah, but that's just how my sister is. She loves teasing people with her body, in hopes of finding the one brave soul who actually asks her out."

"Wait, no one's ever asked her out before?" I asked surprisingly and Ruby nodded in reply.

"Everyone she's ever met is either too scared or they think she's way outta their league." She stated and shook her head slightly. "It's weird honestly."

"I guess, I mean I didn't really pay much attention to your sister but she does have her looks and she seems fun." I said and smiled a bit.

Ruby then groaned softly and I looked at her confused. "You say that but her jokes are sooooo baaaaad."

"Well, lets move on from that shall we?" I hummed and smiled, putting some more sugar in my coffee. "Have you picked out your costume yet?"

Ruby opened her mouth like she was about to reply and then closed it and seemed to be in thought. "Actually, no I haven't. I usually have it already but the day I normally end up shopping for it I had to come and escort you." She said and then shifted in her seat.

"Is...something wrong?" I asked softly and took a sip of my drink and shuttered slightly when the a/c turned on.

"No, it's just that sitting on my butt this long is unusual for me." Ruby replied and laughed nervously. "I'm usually running around all the time."

I sighed and shook my head playfully. "Honestly, you are such a different person when not on the job."

Ruby then looked down at her drink. "I used to be like this all the time Weiss, but then something happened that changed me, I took up this job to help forget...I even started drinking but I stopped after one night. Didn't like the taste at all or the way it made me act."

"Whatever happened, it must have been pretty bad to mess with you like that." I said in a soft tone and Ruby nodded.

"Let's just...drop it now okay? I wanna focus on getting my costume and then get you back safely." She said and took the last sip of her coffee when I suddenly realized something.

"Wait, does this mean I have to come to that party with you? Since you kinda have to, you know, guard me?" I asked and Ruby groaned and facepalmed.

"Crap, I didn't think about that until just now. I guess you will have to come along with me." She said and sighed softly, then looked up and smiled slightly. "Welp, look's like you're going to have to come costume shopping too Weiss. How about and Ice Queen one?" She asked, laughing a bit and I glared at her and kicked her leg under the table. "Ow! I was only joking."

"I know, but it wasn't funny." I said and huffed, finishing up the coffee and then stood up from the booth and began walking out of the café as I soon heard Ruby's footsteps behind me.

"Someone's in a hurry, you know the costume store's across the whole store right?" She asked and I glanced at her and saw she had her hands on the back of her head.

"Well I...uhh, no I didn't." I admitted and sighed, hearing Ruby giggle behind me.

"Well then, you'd better follow me otherwise you're gonna get lost." Ruby stated and walked in front of me. "Plus it's easier for me to keep an eye on our surroundings."

"I guess you have a point, lead the way Ms. Bodyguard." I said sarcastically and rolled my eyes, staying close behind her. "So, what kinda costume are you thinking of getting?"

"You know, I'm probably just going to
go with a classic. Try and find a witch costume." Ruby replied and I laughed a bit, causing her to glance back at me. "What's so funny?"

"Oh nothing, just wondering if they'll have anything in your size." I replied with a playfully grin.

"You're sooo mean! I know I'm small but you're not exactly big either." Ruby said and huffed, crossing her arms under her chest.

"Hey! At least I'm taller then my guard! What are you anyway? Like 18?" I said and tilted my head slightly to see her reaction.

"No, I'm 20." Ruby replied and I gasped softly and she looked back at me again with a surprised look. "What?"

I shook my head slightly and smiled a bit. "Oh nothing, you just look and act younger then you actually are."

Ruby laughed softly and shook her head slightly. "Oh hush, I can still do my job and keep you safe Weiss."

I nodded and patted her head playfully. "I know you can, now come on. Lets go get our costumes." I said and Ruby nodded and we both made our way to the Halloween store.
