Ruby

As I walked out the door with Weiss, I shivered a bit from the cold breeze that suddenly blew by us, causing Weiss to hold her skirt down and I laughed.

"Pffffff, haha! That's why I never wear just the skirt, stuff like that can happen alllll the time." I said, causing her to glare.

"Well it's not my fault that the wind decided to kick up just then." She stated, crossing her arms under her chest after the wind died down.

"Yeah yeah, I know. Come on, this may be a small little city buuuut there's a lot to see!" I said cheerfully and smiled, walking ahead of her.

I started walking ahead then noticed Weiss had not yet move since there was no noise of her footsteps behind me. I turned around slowly on the tip of my foot and held my hands behind my back and leaned forward a bit. "What's wrong Weiss?" I asked and she blinked slightly then shook her head.

"Nothing, it's just that you seem like a completely different person than before is all." She explained and I smiled.

"Ohhhh thaaaat. Well Weiss, I only act like that when I'm on the job. Come on, lets walk and I'll explain." I said and she nodded, walking towards me as we then started walking down the street side by side.

"So, you only act like how you were acting when on the job? Aren't you on the job now?" Weiss asked, glancing at me.

I sighed slightly and smiled a bit. "Technically, yes I am. Buuuuut it's no fun being like that alllll the time. Besides, I like being my cheerful self instead of my serious on the job self." I explained and she nodded. "Oh, and I'm like that before a job to, no idea why though."

Weiss let a small laugh out an shook her head slightly. "To think my bodyguard is such a silly dolt."

"Hey! I'm not a dolt!" I said and she laughed again and rolled her eyes playfully, causing me to huff and cross my arms under my chest. "I can still keep you safe..."

"Indeed you can, you proved that earlier today. I'm quiet impressed to find out your skills, especially with that weapon of yours." She said, causing me to smile.

"Thanks, it took me a few years to master my skill with Crescent Rose. Oh, that's what I decided to call my weapon." I glanced at her and she giggled.

"You gave your weapon a name huh? Why, did you make it by hand or something?" Weiss asked and I nodded and she seemed surprised.

"Yeah, I made it by myself not long after..." I started to say then looked down slightly and sighed sadly.

I felt Weiss place a hand on my shoulder and I merely glanced at her out of the corner of my eye. "Ruby, everything okay?"

I nodded slightly then shook my head and looked back up. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just remembered something I'd rather forget ever happened." I reply and continued walking down the street. "So, what do you wanna see first?"

I glanced back at Weiss, who was walking slightly behind me. Probably because I did just start walking ahead of her but she did seem distracted as she was looking around at all the buildings. "Hm, you know I'm not quiet sure." She said then snapped her fingers. "Hey I know, is there a shopping mall here?" She asked and I nodded.

"Yeah, I can show you where it is. We're not to far from it and they have some really great stores there." I smiled a bit back at her.

Weiss smiled a bit then nodded as she followed beside me. "I'll take your word for it Ruby, you have been here longer than me after all."

"Ya got that right." I replied and put my hands behind my head and sighed softly, looking down at the ground slightly as I continued to lead Weiss around town. For some reason though, I couldn't get that awful memory out of my head. It was forever burned into my head and soon, all I could see was Jaune and Pyrrha. I clutched my fists together and teared up a small bit. I then shook my head slightly and rubbed my shoulder. 'Stupid Jaune...I can NOT believe I wasted three years of my life with him..just for him to do that to me...And Yang, I love her but she needs to stop trying to set me up with someone else.' I thought to myself and didn't notice Weiss and I were quickly coming up on the mall.

"Umm, Ruby? Earth to Ruby?" Weiss said and waved her hand in front of my face, causing me to snap out of my thoughts and look around.

"Huh, what? Yeah Weiss?" I asked and looked over at her and she seemed to frown slightly, making me tilt my head.

"You..have tears in your eyes.." She said and I froze, panicking slightly as I quickly wiped them away.

"What? No I don't you're crazy hey look! We reached the mall." I said quickly and chuckled nervously.

I heard Weiss sigh and walk in front of me, glancing back at me slightly. "I honestly can figure you out. You're so weird." She said and started walking towards the mall.

I frown slightly and rolled my eyes, following behind her as I sighed. "There's nothing wrong with being weird Weiss."

"No, I suppose not." She replied as we both entered the mall and looked around, seemingly in awe before turning her attention back to me. "But there is something wrong with you."

I stepped back a bit and crossed my arms under my chest. "And what exactly is that supposed to mean?"

"That is the second time today you've frozen up like that, if there's something you're not telling me that's fine. But if it hinders your ability to do your job, I suggest you get some help." Weiss said and then turned around and walked ahead while I stood there frozen.

What could I say, she was right. That event scarred me for life, I've friend zoned a lot of boys who've asked me out since then, I just couldn't bring myself to trust anyone again..out of fear. No matter how many therapists I went to, none of them could help. I shook my head of these thoughts then shrugged and started to make my way back to Weiss. Once I finally caught up to her, I stood by her side and spoke in my serious voice, cold and calm. "I am perfectly capable of handling myself and the job I'm doing Ice Queen. Why don't you worry about yourself and I'll worry about me, my problems, and your safety?"

Weiss glared at me but it didn't faze me, I could see her skin shiver from my tone and she backed up a bit. She seemed to be in shock from something I said. I walked over to a vending machine nearby and dispensed a single ice cube. "How...how did you.."

"Know your nick name that was given to you by many?" I cut her off and grinned. "Like I said, I do my job, which includes background research on the people I protect. To see if they're actually worth me protecting. And you Weiss.." I said then held the cube out in my hand. "Are on thin ice." I then crushed the cube in my hand and let the pieces fall to the floor and she stared at me in shock as I walked closer to her. "So, I advice you to not push matters that do NOT concern you, k?" I asked with an innocent smile and all she did was nod. "Good, now we can continue with your grand tour of Vale!" I said in my usually joyful tone as I spun around and continued walking, smiling a little to myself.
