While waiting for Jules to come back from football practice, Samara made herself comfortable on his bed and utilized her idle time to finish up some homework assignments. When he came in an hour later, she barely looked up long enough to greet him, as she was too busy typing on her laptop.
"Sounds like someone is working hard," he smiled as he shut the door behind him. Samara looked up at him and chuckled.
"Hey, you know me," she smiled. "How was practice?"
Jules let his gym bag slip from his shoulder and fall to the floor. "Eh. The same as every other day," he said crossing the room to put his things away. "How was your day?"
"Good," she said as she continued to clack away on the computer. "I finished with classes early today." When Jules walked past her she caught a whiff of his cologne. "Mm. You smell good."
"I hope so. I had to hit the gym shower before I left. I hate riding home sweaty."
Jules kicked off his shoes and joined Samara on the bed. "What are you working on? I see you've turned the bed into your workspace," he said picking up a book off the bed and examining it. "En bonne forme," he read.
Samara sighed. "A two-page French paper. We're not allowed to respond to the prompt in English at all, so you know this is really trying my patience."
Jules shook his head. "I don't know how you're maintaining this insane work load. History, philosophy, French, coding. No one normal is taking all of that in one semester."
"Trust. I know," she said flipping through a French-English dictionary. "This is what happens when you're going for a dual degree in two unrelated fields."
"You're a weirdo," Jules teased.
"Hm. That's what Sam Carter said to me in second grade. It didn't bother me then. Doesn't bother me now," she said smiling up at him. Samara shrugged. "Guess it stuck."
Jules smiled and gave her a chaste kiss on the forehead. "Did you eat yet? I was thinking we could go grab dinner from someplace nearby."
"If you count the king size Snickers bar I demolished earlier, then yes."
"Psh. Sam that ain't no food. I'm talkin' 'bout a real meal."
Samara laughed. "Food sounds like a good idea, but I don't know if I can afford to take a break right now. I really need to get this assignment finished."
"You work too hard."
"Yes and my 4.0 gpa definitely notices," she joked.
"Very funny," he smiled. "Come on Sam. You gotta eat," he encouraged. "Let me take you out." Jules moved in on Samara and kissed her in hopes that it would sway her answer.
"What if we just stayed in," she said as she pecked his lips softly. "We can order take out."
"That sounds nice, but I was hoping I could take you out. You know, show you off a little bit," he smiled.
"Can we do it another night? I'm really not in the mood to go out."
Jules let out a slow exhale. "Is this about seeing your ex with that girl again," he questioned. Samara looked down and placed a hand on her head. Jules sighed. "Sam I thought you were over that."
"Jules I'm sorry. I don't know why this is so hard for me."
"I don't either. You even said that y'all relationship was already struggling as it was, so I can't seem to figure out why you're still holding on to your feelings for him. It's been two months. Let it go. I feel like I'm competing with him and we ain't even together. Shit's weird."
"Okay, maybe I do still love him, but I don't want him back." Because that would be crazy, right?
"Then act like it." Jules huffed. He sat frustratedly on the bed beside Samara.
She looked over at him. "Look," she started, "It's hard for me to see him move on with her. Maybe," she paused and turned his face to hers, "maybe I jumped in too soon with you. I wasn't looking for a relationship when I met you. Rico had just broken up with me earlier that day, how could I? The only reason I indulged you was because I thought we could have fun together. I was under the impression that you understood that. I'm not looking for a relationship Jules. Not right now at least."
"And I'm cool with that," Jules said moving himself closer to Samara. "That was never an issue. I want to have fun too and for me that also means getting out and showing your fine ass off." Jules placed his hand on Samara's chin and gave her a titillating smile. "But," he said biting his lip, "if you don't want to go out tonight, I can think of a few fun things that we can do here."
Samara grinned and leaned in to kiss Jules. She slowly pushed him back onto the bed and crawled on top of him. "What'd you have in mind," she whispered.
