This is for Racheldewen !
The two elves sat, about two feet apart, on the bridge. Both with blonde hair, one with blue eyes, the other with brown. Just sitting. The male elf elbowed the other.
"I can shoot farther than you."
"No, you can't."
"Can you shoot a bow?"
"Well...no."
"Ha ha! So I win! And what kind of elf can't shoot a bow?"
"Me."
"Than you can't be an elf."
"Well, I am."
"How can I be sure?"
"My ears."
"Could have faked them."
"Oh, give it up, Legolas!"
"Never!" Eruantiel leaned forward and kissed him. Legolas's eyes widen, and then closed. Eruantiel pulled away.
"Give up."
"If you kiss me again." They kissed again, this one less urgent, more sweet.
An arrow thudding next to Eruanriel ruined the moment. In an instant, both elves were on their feet, weapons drawn. Legolas drew an arrow.
"How did they find us?"
"They probably smelled us."
"You mean you."
"Just shut it!" The two danced into battle, killing orks with an almost leisure only elves could pulled off. Eruanriel killed enemy after enemy, but still more came. An arrow, going in almost slow motion was heading past her. On course to hit Legolas. She yelled a warning, but relized it was too slow. Without thinking, she pushed Legolas out of the way, as the arrow pierced her stomach.
Eruanriel stumbled backwards, hand flying to the wooden shaft that was killing her. The though came through Legolas's head, as he registered what had just taken place.
"No!"
It was a wail, a plaintive cry. Eruanriel knew it. It had come from her own mouth once. She crumpled, her knees hitting the wooden planks as the orks snarled in delight. The leader called for them to move on. An elf was dying. Another grieving. Mission accomplished.
Legolas ran to the small elf, cradling her in his arms.
"Eru! Don't leave me!" Eruanriel tried to make a word, a sound, but all that came out was a gasp. And then her body was still and cold.
Two elves on a bridge. Both with blonde hair, one with blue eyes, the other with brown.
One dead.
