Aone's reason for not talking is because of a kinda sad story.
When he was in grade school, a girl told him once that he had a terrible breath and laughed at him for it.
The next few weeks all the other kids, that used to play with him, around him started to laugh at him and make fun about what the girl said.
Some kids even started bullying him because of that and because of that he had to change school. That's where he met Futakuchi.
He had to sit next to him and, Futakuchi beeing himself, started talking to him.
On his first day there, Aone didn't say a single thing because he was scared that the other kids would bully him again.
It took Futakuchi almost four weeks to get Aone to talk or laugh.
When he actually got Aone to answer his pretty simple question, he was the happiest boy in earth.
It was something like this:
"Aone, can I ask you something ?"
"..."
"Do you have a favourite colour ?"
"...blue..."
"You said something ! I can't believe it !"
Aone isn't that insecure anymore but he still prefers to not talk that much, even though he has now a breath that smells like mint most of the time.
