Questions for Mister Ghost

The sun started to set, painting the skies above Charrault in a brilliant golden-purple colour. Street lamps started to light up the cobblestone pathways and brick roads as shops started to close down and small restaurants started to become consumed by the hustle and bustle of the town's people. A cool autumn wind rustled the trees' leaves and the smell of flowers wafted through the air.

Finis had insisted that he and Dain should go walking to the flower fields, and after a full hour of nagging, they were strolling down the dirt pathway towards the colourful fields. Of course, passerby's only saw one boy walking down the road, for the other was a Ghost that would never be seen by anyone ever again.

"It's a beautiful evening, isn't it?" Dain said, sounding more cheerful than ever.

"Mhmm," Finis agreed. "Although, the evenings are quite beautiful every day. The sunrises are much more pretty though!" he said excitedly.

"Wait, does that mean you stay awake all the time?" Dain asked.

"Well, yes. Ghosts don't have to worry about fatigue... Or getting hungry, for that matter," Finis replied.

The boys walked in silence for a few more moments before they arrived at their destination. The flower fields were filled with daisies, poppies, iris', sunflowers and almost every flower you could imagine! The colours reflected brilliantly against the sunset, causing everything to look more vibrant and calm. Dain lead Finis to a small clearing and sat on the grassy ground.

"You know, I was wondering if I could ask you some questions, Finis. If that's okay, of course," Dain asked nervously.

"Of course you can! Ask me anything!" Finis replied. He was exhilarated by the fact that someone would finally make an effort to get to know him!

"Um, this might be a weird question," Dain began, "But can you see yourself? So if you look into a mirror, would you be able to see yourself?"

"I can indeed see myself, yes... It's just a bit different. Instead of seeing a solid-looking being, I see a more transparent being... Does that make any sense?" Finis asked.

"Yes, I understand... And can you-"

"Also, I am extremely surprised that you barely asked any questions about the rules of Haunting and all that Ghost stuff," Finis interrupted.

Dain looked at what he thought was where Finis was sitting. "I didn't bother to ask anything because I suppose I was at ease when you said Haunting was actually looking after someone. Anyway, back to my question-"

"Give me something that I can hold," Finis demanded. "Just put it on the floor so I can grab it."
In irritation, Dain vigorously chucked his pocket watch to the ground and watched as it started floating in the air.
"See, now you know where I am!" Finis said.

"Right. Now back to my question. How did you die?" Dain asked.

Finis stopped fiddling with the pocket watch. He never thought about how he died. "Uhhh... I don't actually know. Ghosts don't remember how you die... Well, at least I don't remember how I died. I don't know when I died either... I just know who my family was and I have vivid memories of my time at school. Shouldn't you know how I died, Dain? Surely it was in the newspapers?" Finis asked.

"No... People only found your body by the river nearby," Dain responded.

"When did I die?" Finis asked dryly.

"At the beginning of the year."
Suddenly curious, Dain wanted to know exactly how much Finis remembered. "Finis? Do you know how old you are?"

"I'm 18... Which means this would've been my last year at school," Finis replied, a certain sadness hanging from his voice. "Usually I prefer to stay positive. I love being a Ghost! It's a lot of fun! But it really hurts to know people now need to live without you..." his voice started to break.

Dain didn't know what to do, so he got up, retrieved his pocket watch and walked away with a sniffling sound hovering next to him.

"Finis, maybe I could help you find out how you died," Dain offered. He was trying to sound as gentle as possible since he knew that this was now a sensitive topic they were on.

"I don't think I want to relive the past. I should rather focus on the present, for I know that if I'm not happy now, I will be happy eventually. And to be happy eventually, I shan't focus on the past." Finis said this so sternly and bravely, it took Dain by shock.

Dain felt his eyes starting to water.

'How could I have missed out on such a great person?'
