We arrive to some weird pub/bar kind of place. My mom's never been much of a drinker, so I'm a tad bit confused right now.
"Mom, uh," I start. "Where the hell are we?" She laughs.
"This is the Leaky Cauldron," She says, getting out of the car. She locks the door and goes inside.
"Elizabeth!" An old man says happily. My mom smiles at him and gives him a hug. "How are you? It has been so long since you've come to visit!"
"I've been good, how about yourself?"
"No complaints here," He chuckles. He notices me standing behind my mom, looking at all of the strange people in this room. "And who may that be?" He says, nodding his head towards me.
"This is my daughter, y/n,"
"Nice to meet you, y/n" He smiles, offering his hand. I shake it.
"Nice to meet you too," I say, trying to sound as kind as possible. I'm just a little freaked out right now, no big deal. My mom motions for her to follow me.
"Have fun out there, y/n!" The old man says to me, waving. I wave back and follow my mom to a cramped courtyard in the back of the building.
My mom taps some of the bricks on the wall, seemingly in a pattern, and all of a sudden the wall starts opening up. My jaw drops wide open.
"Welcome to Diagon Alley!" She cheers. She wiggles her way through the crowds on people, I follow close behind her. "This is where wizards and witches come to get anything they may need."
"Is this real life?" I ask, half-jokingly. She laughs.
"That place over there is where you'll get your text books if you decide to go to Hogwarts. That stone building with black-paned windows is Ollivander's Wand Shop, where you'd get your wand. That over there is Eeylops Owl Emporium, where you can get a pet owl if you'd like,"
"It's all so," I pause, taking it all in. "beautiful," I exhale. I don't think I've ever seen my mom happier.
We walk into the owl shop and take a look at them. I see one all the way in the back and make my way towards him. He's noticeably smaller than all of the other owls in here, with brown and white feathers. He is adorable. I put my finger up to the cage, disregarding the sign reading "Careful: May Bite". He looks at me for a moment, as if pondering whether to trust me or not, and hops closer to me. He rubs his head on my fingers and coos. I smile.
"Seems like he likes you," My mom says from behind me, smiling too. "We can take him home if you'd like,"
I look at him, and he looks back at me.
"Let's go home, buddy," He starts flapping his wings and ruffling his feathers, as if he was trying to look nice for his new owners. I laugh. We pay for him and exit the shop. "Is this what Hogwarts is like? All of these wizards and witches and good energy?" I ask.
"Yes, y/n. This is what it is like," she backs up so that the children that are chasing each other can run past. "We can go home if you need more time to decide whether or not you want to go,"
"Mom," I say, smiling. Her eyes sparkle with joy, anticipating what I say next. "I want to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,"
"You just made me so happy," She smiles, looking like she's about to cry.
"Please don't cry, oh my god mom," I turn away from her, slightly embarrassed. She wipes her eyes, exhales, and laughs.
"No, I'm fine, I'm fine. We have to go buy the rest of your things,"
