The next day at school, the school's counselor was making a speech about a phone call made by a parent the night before. She was in the beginning of her speech while Miguel, Demetri, Eli and Amelia were all sitting at their usual table. Compared to when Miguel and Amelia got there three months ago, Amelia now sat next to Eli, who was still next to Demitri, while Miguel sat next to his sister. Miguel was contently listening to the counselor, drinking his milk while the rest of the group was bored out of their minds. The only one who seemed bothered by the speech was Eli, so Amelia was trying her best to calm him down.
"Cyberbullying is no laughing matter. Sending a cruel message to someone online can be just as hurtful as saying it to their face. I'm not gonna name names, but the other day a mother called me up because her son was crying after some kids online made fun of his facial deformity." The counselor explained, looking directly at Eli towards the end.
If it wasn't obvious before the entire speech started that it was about Eli, it sure as hell was now. The entire cafeteria turned to look at their table, some sneering at the boy, some glaring and some snickering like he wanted this to happen, like he wanted the attention. It made Amelia sick.
"It's the kid right there," Some kid whispered.
Then another whisper came from their left, "It's the kid with the weird lip."
Amelia just glared at the counselor with all the anger she could muster, causing the older woman to look away in a slight panic.
"But today, our goal here is to make this school a safe place for all students," The counselor continued, but Amelia and most of the students of the cafeteria stopped paying attention at that point.
The young girl watched him with sad eyes as the boy tried his best to hide his face down on the table, away from the prying eyes of the rest of the students.
Amelia glared around the room to anyone who looked at him then turned towards her friend, rubbing his back gently while saying, "It's okay cutie. No one's gonna say anything, they're all too stupid to make that connection anyways."
Miguel sat up straighter in his seat and suggested, "You know if you're sick of getting bullied, our karate dojo's looking for recruits."
Eli looked at Miguel hopefully but couldn't say a word before Demitri scoffed, "Yeah right. You hear that Eli? A little karate training, and you're gonna kick some major ass."
The teen did a mock karate chop in the air, snickering when Amelia huffed angrily, "You're being a major ass."
Demitri rolled his eyes at the girl and Amelia's temper rose slightly. She was already upset with this situation, there's no need for Demitri to make it worse.
It wasn't until she felt a warm hand grab a hold of hers that she started to calm down. When she looked over at the culprit, he wasn't even paying attention to what his hand was doing, it was almost a subconscious decision to hold her hand. Definitely curious.Miguel shrugged his shoulders, leaning back in his chair, and continued, "I'm serious Demitri. Our sensei's the real deal. I'm sure we could get you both some real discounts."
Amelia nodded her head and agreed, "It's true, we're both a lot stronger than before." Then the small girl smiled mischievously at her friend and sarcastically replied, "I could show you if you want sweet cheeks."
Demitri chuckled sarcastically at Amelia before turning his attention to Miguel and replying, "As enticing as that sounds, I think we'd rather spend our afternoons playing Crucible Control than getting hit in the face."
Amelia just smirked and snickered, "And you wonder why you get beat up Trity."
She crossed her arms over her chest, letting go of Eli's hand when Demitri glared, "Shut it Milly."
