I wake up to the sound of quiet crying and sniffling to my right. I slowly open my eyes, and I find myself in a hospital room. The walls are the lightest shade of tan, lighter than beach sand. I move my head towards the sound to find Phil, eyes puffy and red and looking at my hand, which I now realize he is squeezing-hard. "Godammit Phil, you are gonna make the bloodflow stop!" I say, laughing. He looks up at me, his crystal blue eyes bloodshot and filled with tears. "Dan, don't you ever do that to me again, I thought you were a goner. I mean, the doctors said you would be fine, but I couldn't help but worry..." "Oh shut up, I'm fine. You, on the other hand, look terrible." I smile, which for some reason, feels like their is a foreign body on my face. It's an odd sensation, like there is a leech laying agains my lips, forcing them upward. I immediately stop, the feeling is weirding me out. Phil looks at me, smiling as well. "Do I really look that bad?" I roll my eyes jokingly. "Yes Phil. You look repulsive, ugly, and disgusting." We both laugh instantly. A doctor enters from a door behind Phil. "Well someone is in a good mood!" The doctor appears to be just over six feet tall, with brown eyes, brown but graying hair, and dark blue scrubs. "I'm Dr. Williams. Do you remember what happened?"

The recollection of the past events swarm my mind.

"I was riding the public transport with Phil. There was a funny smell, like gasoline. Out of nowhere, everything around me exploded.., that's all I remember." "It's quite alright," the doctor reassures me. "Memory loss is quite common is cases like this. You hit your head pretty hard on a metal bar, and blacked our. Your friend here carried you to the hospital. Thank goodness you were so close!" I look over at Phil. He saved my life? Wow. He'll probably use this to bribe me from this point on. He saved me... The sound of those words rolls out of my mouth nicely. "Thank you." I say, more serious than I've ever been. He looks at me, grinning from ear to ear. "Well what did you expect? For me to leave you alone?" I quickly realize something shocking- I had no idea what to expect, what I assumed he would do if I needed him. Knowing he would rescue me felt good, and I didn't want that to change.
