Step 4: Never Leave his Side

Good cat gods, Small Bob hates car rides. First of all, he's been stuffed into that tiny white box of doom that smells funny, it's stuffy and hot, he can't sleep properly because it's bumpy and what's more, he can't go to the toilet or he'll have to sit in it for cats' knows how long and he has to pee.

The car finally stops and his human appears in front of the evil box, he picks it up and carries Small Bob to the front of the car and places him on the bonnet (hood) and opens the metal gate. Small Bob leaps out immediately and stretches his long body out while meowing in annoyance.

"Sorry about that Small Bob, I know you don't like that carrier." His human says giving him a very tasty treat and a scratch behind the ears, Small Bob is very tempted to pee right there on the bonnet (hood) in revenge for being kept in that box but he decides to give his human a break and jumps off the car to pee.

Percy leans against the car and eyes the area around him, after his pee, Small Bob joins him and rubs his head against Percy's arm. They're in a strange place, hundreds of humans all round with just as many cars moving and standing still. A giant building looms in front of Small Bob making him feel quite small indeed even though he's been fully grown for almost three years.

"Sorry Small Bob, but you're going to have to go back into the carrier." Percy pulls it towards him causing Small Bob to hiss angrily at him.

"Please S.B?" Percy gives him a pair of big round eyes that are very tempting to Small Bob to just back down and stop hissing, he looks very cute....

No! Control Small Bob! He yells at himself and continues to hiss. Percy sighs and drops the look, thank cats.

"Maybe you could just sit on the passenger seat, it's not much further." Percy pauses before nodding at his decision and leaving the carrier in the backseat and lifting him into the passenger seat.

Small Bob perks up when Percy sits down into the car with him, his ears twitching when Percy gives him a light scratch behind them. The car starts moving again making Small Bob jump with excitement, he leaps up and puts his paws against the dashboard so that he can gaze out of the window.

He glances at his human and smiles a little to himself, his human was a good human, he really was. He understood that Small Bob can never leave his side.

I don't know if you remember, but in chapter 3 of How to Woo Jason Grace (step 3: engage in conversation) Percy mentions that Piper and Annabeth had some trouble admitting their feelings and  was thinking about writing a sort of prequel to How To Woo Jason Grace. It will be called How to Tell Annabeth Chase you Love Her.
