While the group was settled around the bonfire, Katherine, sitting on the ground alike Peter, watched Mrs. Beaver tend to the Fox's wound with motherly intent. It had been sustained in confrontation with the wolves — the Secret Police — that the White Witch had sic'ed on them.

"May I ask, how they came to be? The animals?" Peter wondered, breaking the silence.

"They were helping Tumnus. The Witch got here before I did." The Fox explained before yelping under Mrs. Beaver's ginger paw.

"Are you all right?" Asked Lucy, her body curled into Susan's side as she munched on a s'more.

"I wish I could say their bark was worse than their bite." He yelped once more.

"Stop squirming!" Mrs. Beaver scolded. "You're worse than Beaver on bath day."

The male beaver shook his head at the thought and told the children, "Worse day of the year."

"Thank you for your kindness, but that's all the cure I have time for." The Fox struggled; he had managed to stand on all fours.

     "You're leaving?" Lucy frowned.

"It has been a pleasure, my Queen," he bowed on his front legs before resuming his original stance, "and an honor, but time is short, and Aslan and Eden themselves have asked me to gather more troops."

While Mrs. Beaver gasped, Mr. Beaver asked, "You've seen Aslan, and Eden both?"

     "What're they like?"

"Like everything we've ever heard." A little smile graced his friendly face. "You'll be glad to have them by your side in the battle against the Witch."

"But we're not planning on fighting any witch." Denied Susan.

"But surely, Queen Katherine and King Peter, the prophecy!" The Fox reminded the hesitant girl.

"We can't go to war without you two." Mr. Beaver said.

Katherine kept her eyes engaged on the ablaze fire crackling, shuffling under their gazes that she inadvertently was avoiding. Peter, carefully examining his sister, smiled apologetically, but it appeared a mere grimace. He parted his lips to say: "We just want our brother back."
