I was late, everyone was probably already in line! I thought to myself. I am a German solder I cannot be late! When I got there everyone was still scrabbling to get in line, "why is everyone still not in line? Shouldn't sergeant be here?" I asked my friend Karl,

"everyone is concerned! Sergeant should be here, but he isn't!" he told me

"well let's still get in line so we don't get yelled at and have to do workouts." I said loud enuf for everyone to hear. After I said that everyone got in line, none of us liked workouts. We waited for awhile

"dad is never late!" my brother Wilhelm Jr. whispered to me,

"I know, why is he late today?" I asked,

"maybe he had a meeting?" he answered.

"EVERONE IN NOW!" my dad yelled at us from a car

"sar-"

"YES, YOU WILL ALL FIT! NOW IN!!". We all quickly got in the car, it was cramped

"what is happening sarge?" Karl asked,

"British tropes on the western front!" Sergeant Müller told us. A few minutes later I was in the middle of trench warfare. I would have been fine the whole time intill BANG! I looked over and my friend Karl was holding his side while blood was pouring out, Karl was my friend for a long time. The first time I met him we were four. I was now carrying that friend to a nurse with his hand over gushing blood,

"help!" I yelled at the nearest nurse

"what happened?!" she asked

"shot in the side while operating the Minnie gun!"

"ok ok come here" she said gesturing to a bed in a tent "set him here". I set him down and went back to the trench to fight. It had been a few weeks and it was almost Christmas, two days, it was not supposed to last this long! We were fighting and fighting it never stops! I was called by the same nurse that took Karl a few weeks ago

"I am sorry" I saw Karl on the bed and when I checked his heartbeat...he...he did not have one

"n-no..."

"I am sorry...you have to go back to the trenches though, we will notify his family"

"o...ok" I left my spirits down, I did not care if I got shot, at least I would be with Karl, but I know my mom, sister, brother, and dad would be devastated. I fought hard for that day then I heard something when the shooting stopped, a soldier on our side yelled across no man's land

"ENGLISH TOMARROW IF YOU NO SHOOT WE NO SHOOT!" I heard that and I liked it! It was going to be Christmas we should not fight on Christmas!
