I woke up and there were no gun shots...it was weird. I looked over my trench and saw something that was idiocy! Some British was out of his trench without a gun and waving a newspaper in the air! I may be insane too because I put down my gun and got out of my trench. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" my brother yelled at me, I did not know, maybe because I saw a British trusting the Germans I felt like I had to go out and meet this stupid yet brave man. I walked up to him at the barbwire in the middle of no man's land and put out my hand,
"Hans" I said
"Walter" he said taking my hand and shaking it
"your hand is cold" I let out a small chuckle letting go and walking around the barbwire to his side.
"ya" he let out a small chuckle "my brother always says that" I was on the British side now, not being shot at, talking to an enemy like a friend, it was...nice.
"WELL YOU WON!" someone yelled coming out of the British trench
"won what?" I asked
"we made a bet, he though the Germans were going to take this chance to kill us, but I trusted them-"
"you are an idiot" the guy said punching Walter's shoulder softly while giving him chocolate
"I know" Walter said taking the candy. He turned to me, "want some Hans?"
"w-what?!" I was shocked, "I-I can't you won that"
"it doesn't matter! Here!" he said taking out a chocolate and handing it to me, I didn't even realize that more and more people on both sides where coming out of their trenches!
"Dankeschön" I said thinking I was talking to someone who could understand German
"what?" Walter asked me taking another chocolate for himself,
"oh sorry, I have never said that phrase in English, I said thank you."
"oh, you're welcome! I can understand why you have never said that in English...sadly...are you cold?"
"no, I am not cold, are you?"
"y-ya" he was shivering, his friend that gave him chocolate left a while ago to talk to my brother, so I gave Walter my coat, "what?"
"you gave me chocolate, plus I have two"
"well ok, thank you" he said putting on the coat. A few hours later it was dark, Walter and I were talking, and I did not want to go back to fighting,
"hay Walter" I said
"ya?" he asked
"sorry to bring down the mood, but you do know that we have to fight each other again, tomorrow right?" I said looking up at the sky.
