CEDRIC'S PERSPECTIVE

I continued to put Y/N out of my mind. There was just no point wasting energy on her anymore. Herbology was weird at first, but she got used to me avoiding her, and I noticed that she started pairing up with Squabs for activities. It was probably for the best.

The days without speaking to her turned into weeks, which turned into months, and before I knew it, Halloween had arrived. The halls had been decked with jack-o-lanterns and streamers days before the night even arrived, and the crisp promise of winter was in the air.

It was early afternoon, and Fred Weasley and I were heading back to the castle from Quidditch practice. Poults was sitting on a bench in the courtyard surrounded by giggling girls, but when he saw us he got up and sauntered over.

"You two better hit the showers and rest up! A bunch of us are goin' down to Hogsmeade tonight after the feast!" he exclaimed.

"All right! I've been looking forward to this. Halloween on a Saturday doesn't happen every year!" Fred replied.

"A few drinks would certainly do me some good," I chimed in. Poults chuckled and threw his arm around me.

"We are getting you shagged tonight, my boy," Fred said slyly, shoving me with his elbow. "It's been too long!"

It had been too long, I thought. I hadn't gotten shagged since... well, there was that time at the end of my fifth year with that one Ravenclaw girl where we ALMOST did it... then that time last year after the Yule Ball with my date I had just met the day before... we did it a few times after that, but that was it.

Blimey, it had been a long time.

"What about Y/N?" Poults asked cheekily as Fred waved goodbye and we split off towards Hufflepuff. "Didn't you and her...?"

"No! No. I mean, well... no." I felt my cheeks growing hot. I hadn't thought about Y/N in weeks, and now my old fantasies came flooding back. Like when we sat in front of the fire and I watched the shadows cast by the flames dance over her bare legs, and how her shirt was unbuttoned a little too low and her skirt had ridden up a little too high... I wanted to feel my hands all over her skin, in her hair, holding her down–

"Maybe we'll run into her then," Poults replied.

"It doesn't matter. I thought I was making myself clear. I mean, I kept asking her to be alone with me, and it felt like she kept rejecting me." Poults scoffed.

"Sure it wasn't all in your head?"

"I don't know! I don't know." I sighed. "And it doesn't matter because, well, I was rude to her, and now we haven't spoken in months." I pushed open the house door and stepped in.

"Nothing is impossible. We'll make it happen." Shale winked. What was that supposed to mean?

Y/N PERSPECTIVE

"What are THOSE?" squawked Elaine.

"Oh, come on Elaine, I like them," replied Azalea Coil, twirling a lock of her white hair around her dainty brown finger.

Elaine, Azalea and I were getting ready to go to Hogsmeade and putting on our Halloween costumes. The feast was superb, and we each snuck fistfuls of sweets back up to Azalea's room in Ravenclaw with us. We spread the treats out on the floor to share and we were pregaming with a flask of something horrible that George passed me earlier that day. The taste didn't matter though, because it was doing the trick.

I held the 5 inch heels higher in the air and shook them in Elaine's face. "Something to go with our dresses, obviously."

The three of us were wearing matching satin dresses with dripping jewelry. We had originally planned to dress up as rich muggles, but the idea of just dressing up in general seemed too fun to pass out on. We decided to go the 'sexy and unidentifiable costume' route.

"Absolutely not. I will trip and fall. Besides, it's too cold outside," complained Elaine, and she pulled on a pair of smaller heeled boots.

Azalea snatched the heels from my hands. "Don't mind if I do!" she said. "We won't even be outside. We'll be in the three broomsticks!"

"Exactly. In the three broomsticks, getting drunk, and NOT talking about boys for once, Elaine," I added, pointing at my already tipsy best friend.

"What are we waiting for? Let's go!" shouted Azalea.

Hogsmeade was dark and loud, filled with sixth and seventh years who were taking advantage of the new policy that allowed older students to stay out after dark on the weekends.

Azalea, Elaine, and I had been joined by some other girls in our year, and we sat at the table happily drinking and cheering with the rest of the bar late into the night. I was the happiest I had been in a while, dancing with random strangers and laughing at anything they said to me.

My vision was so blurry that I at first didn't notice that the next boy I grabbed happened to be Poults.

Uh oh. Shale Poults.

He didn't notice at first either, and when he did, he snatched his hands from my waist immediately and leaned back against the bar, grinning.

"Evening, Y/N! What have you been up to these days?" he asked. I was too drunk to notice his eyes darting around the bar, plotting.

"Avoiding your arrogant roommate!" I huffed, but it came out more slurred than I would have liked.

"Speaking of which, I think he's around here somewhere. Let's go say hi," he said, and grabbed my hand.

"Wait– Shale, what? Did you hear what I just said?"

Poults clearly wasn't listening, and he dragged me across the room towards a more secluded corner. A house elf was shuttling buckets and mops in and out of a broom closet to clean up messes. "Heads up," it grumbled at us, and shoved us aside. Poults ducked back into the crowd, but motioned for me to stay put.

"What are you doing, Poults?" I muttered. Just then, I knew.

Cedric appeared, looking tipsy and disheveled. He wore a stupid grin on his face, and his tie undone around his neck. His hair was tousled and sweaty, and he looked like he had been dancing.

His smile faltered when he saw me.

That's it. He still hates me.

I started to turn away to head back to my friends, but Poults grabbed my shoulder.

"I think you two have some discussing to do," he said with a mischievous glint in his eye.

Before either of us had time to react, Poults opened the broom closet, shoved the two of us in, and shut the door behind us.

The only thing I heard in the total silence was the sound of Cedric' breath and the lock clicking from the outside.

Shit.
