Morgana's POV

I'm mad at my tears. I'm mad at my legs for thinking running away is the answer. I'm mad at my voice for cracking at my sobs. I'm mad at the forest soil for soaking my favourite nightgown wet. But most of all, I'm mad at that stupid blonde.

For taking away my only chance of freedom. Who on earth does she think she is?! A sorceress, that's for sure. She must've been the one who heard the ringing sound and produced one herself earlier today. I could always destroy her by revealing her secret to the king of course. But not before I'll make her life a living Hell...

Kara's POV

The next morning

'What are YOU doing up so early?' Alex asks, looking astonished, while she collects her medical supplies. 'I thought I heard you come in just a few hours ago, concluded you went to the tavern again. Normally you'd sleep through lunch! what's gotten into your head? Speaking about heads, mine is throbbing and-'

'Alex', my heart is pounding in my chest and my nerves are inevitably shown. Alex ceases all her actions and walks towards me with a worried look.

'Kara... What did you do?' She tries to scan my eyes but I've averted them.

'You always ask what I did.' I let out a nervous chuckle. 'Perhaps someone has done something to me, do you ever consider that?'

'Kara, you're really scaring me now. Was there some kind of pervert in the tavern last night harassing you or something?' She says carefully and tenderly, making me realise she is actually worried now.

'No, Alex don't worry, nothing bad happened. Besides, I wasn't in the tavern but', I hesitate a moment to think about how to put this, 'in the king's castle before you get cross with me again, let me explain!', I quickly add when I see Alex mouth opening, 'Did you know I can hear it when someone uses magic?' Alex shakes her head. 'Oh yeah, of course you don't because I didn't know until last night.'

After I explained the whole story in detail to Alex, she sits quietely, probably processing what she has just heard.

'So the Lady Morgana attacked you and now you have to work for her? That's terrible, Kara! I swear if she does anything to you again, I'll-'

'You know you can't, Alex, the king would have your head. But thanks for the concern.' I say with a smile, feeling a lot better than earlier actually. Distantly, I can hear Alex ranting on about the king's ward, how she was 'definitely responsible for the attempt on Uther's life' and how I should treat her the way she treats me, but all I am thinking about now is how she got this way and if I could change her.

Of course, I barely know her but as I get to be her maid, I would like to be surrounded by someone who is not squeezing my windpipe shut at every little thing I do wrong. That anger must've come from somewhere else than me bumping into her.

'I'm nervous, Alex.' I say with a sigh and she holds me at armlength, scanning me from top to toe.

'I'm proud of you. You saved the king's life. You're a true hero, so you're going to be fine. Besides, you don't have to be afraid there will be awkward silences, since you never get enough of talking.'

'But she will get enough of it for sure.' I mumble.

'Hey, you're going to be fine.' She looks me deep in the eye and I can see a sparkle in her eye that I like so much.

'Okay, okay, thanks Alex. You're the best.' I pull her into a hug and we stay like that for a few seconds before Alex tells me she has to go see her first patient. And so we both leave the house.
