With Mandy gone, we had to pair winter with another female, since we had Mazie, I suggested we pair her with winter, but the board was skeptical about that when I brought it up to them, they were not sure.
"Will it work?" Phil asked. Phil was the head of the board and the one that bought the aquarium
"Only way to know is to give it a try" my father said to Phil at the board meeting
"And if it doesn't?" Phil asked him
"Then we will lose winter" my father said. I looked at him.
"Dad we can't! Let's try the pairing! If it doesn't work than it doesn't work, we have to at least try" I replied.
Clay let out a sigh and he looked at the other board members, and sat down and discussed it with them
"What do you guys think of it?" Clay asked as he looked around at everyone, including me
"Its worth a shot" I replied back and Phil looked at me
"Its too risky, especially with how winter is now" Phil replied
"Come on Phil, we can't give up on Winter, not yet" I replied and I looked at Phil
Phil sighed and hesitantly nodded, I could tell he didn't want to do it, but it was for the good of winter.
Soon it was time for the pairing, Winter was in her enclosure and Mazie was in the pool
"Alright everyone, its just like a normal day, they'll have their sessions, Sawyer will have Winter, Crystal will have Mazie. Does everyone know their assignments?" Phoebe asked "where's Kyle?"
"Right here" Kyle responded and put his hand up
"Kyle is our safety, if anyone feels unsafe or in danger, his word is law" Phoebe responded
"I want to thank everyone for being prepared for today, you guys are awesome. As much as we love winter and Mazie, they are wild animal's, they could bite, rick each other with their teeth, and even draw blood, and take a cheap shot when the other one isn't looking. That's how they establish dominance in the wild, but if all goes well, and they accept each other, you'll see parallel swimming, a nice, easy, relaxed natural swimming motion" Sawyer said "does anyone have any questions?"
Clay raised his hand
"Yeah Dr. Clay" Sawyer said
"When did you become so bossy?" Clay asked jokingly, everyone chuckled.
All of us went to the pools, I got into the water with Mazie, Sawyer helped put Winter's tail on her
"Is everyone ready?" Phoebe asked. We nodded "alright, open the gate"
Winters gate was opened and Sawyer pointed and sent winter into the pool. Once winter was in the middle. I sent Mazie over to her.
Mazie tried echolocating a tail but couldn't find one, which made her swim around fast, she wasn't sure about winter's prosthetic tail. Winter tried biting mazie and mazie splashed at her with her tail
"Be ready with the net!" My father yelled.
"No! Winter!" Sawyer yelled
Winter bit Mazie slightly and Mazie freaked out and splashed at winter more, not liking how it was going with winter, it was clear that mazie was afraid. Winter pushed past Sawyer back into her enclosure
"Close the gate!" Phoebe yelled
Winter's gate was closed and sawyer took off winters prosthetic and winter went back under the platform
"Oh my gosh I hope their alright" Phoebe said and ran down to the platform where Mazie was
I looked Mazie over and gave a slight sigh. I put ointment on the wound and hoped it would naturally heal.
"She okay?" Hazel asked me
"Yeah I think so" I replied back to Hazel
"Come on, we have to look over the footage with the team" Hazel said
I sat down and turned on the TV to look at the footage that Hazel took
"She was fine coming out of the gate" Phoebe said
"She's just being territorial" Kat said "she's saying this is my gate"
"But look, when Mazie goes to where the prosthetic is" I said
"She should've not freaked out like that then" Phoebe said
"She's never seen a prosthetic tail before so it freaked her out" I replied.
"So we aren't going to try again?" Phoebe asked and looked at me
"No, we aren't going to try again, I don't want Mazie getting hurt again" I replied and looked at her
"I really thought they'd accept each other" Hazel replied. I nodded
"I agree to that Hazel" I replied and looked at the others
"Hopefully we can find another female for winter" Phoebe added
