Wage inequality is one of the biggest problems women face. The gender wage gap is the space between a man's income and a woman's. The difference in pay because depends on worker education, experience, and occupation, but the general idea is that women make less than men for the same work. Part of the problem is that men make up more of the workforce. In the chart below, you can see the gender gap in different countries.
In most countries, the gender gap has decreased. In England for example, the gender gap went from 50% in 1970, to 17% in 2016. The chart below shows the decrease in the gender gap over the years.
But, just because it has decreased doesn't mean it's not there. Studies show that the gender pay gap is larger for older workers. The gender wage gap is smaller in middle-income countries, which have the least amount of women in the workforce. The chart below explains it all,
Women are underrepresented in high paying, senior, management positions. These usually pay better, which contributes to the pay gap.
