Day 1 - Tier 2: Unrequited Love
Ennotana

Let me ask you a question

Have you ever loved someone?

Loved someone so much that you felt as if you couldn't live without them

He felt that

But the one he loved was so far away...

When his eyes would be driven to him, he would look elsewhere

She was a beauty. She was perfect in every way. Kind, beautiful, smart...and he was normal. He was a background character, someone easily forgotten by others.

———————————————————————————————

He heard the sounds of cheers and the blasting music from the ballroom inside. It was too loud inside, too crowded. He needed fresh air.

He stared down at his glass. How many had he had that night? Four? Five? He couldn't remember really. To him everything was a blur, he felt numb.

But that feeling wasn't too bad. It felt better than the sadness and emptiness he felt earlier. The numbness replaced the whole in his heart.

Whenever he had thoughts of the one he loved in his mind he would usually think back. Back to when he had a chance. When he wasn't too far from his grasp. Those were good times, he wished they lasted forever.

But time flys by and slowly he got further and further away up until the point where he just had to stop running after him.

'Wouldn't it be nice?' He would ask himself. 'Wouldn't it be nice if it were you he was after and not her?'

A new picture came into his mind. Two people at an altar preparing to marry one another. It was him and the one he loved. All seemed so familiar but so wrong.

'No that's not how it was, no not at all!' his mind exclaimed

He tried to ignore the voice in his mind that was screaming about the error in his memory. What was wrong with it anyway? All seemed right in it, there he was with him. They got married in that chapel. He got married in that chapel. He did! He knows it!

'NO! ITS ALL WRONG!'

The image then changed. He was no longer there. It was her now, not him...

'I should've known...'

Normally right about this point he would be shedding some tears now. Drowning in his sorrow about what could have been. But he didn't? All he did was laugh.

"Hahaa...I should stop drinking I'm starting to see things" He said with a bitter tone.

Truth is he wanted to sob, cry until there were no more tears left. But he was telling himself not to.

Maybe he could go the night without crying. Yeah, he could do that. He didn't need to cry because there was no need. Nothing he can do about it. Besides, he had been doing so well and it was almost time to leave. Just a couple more hours, he could manage, right? RIGHT!?

Wrong

"Hey, there you are!" Someone yelled.

He jumped at the sudden yell but quickly calmed down and regained his composure. He turned around to see who it was. When he did though it felt as if the world froze.

"Hey, Chikara where have you been? I've barely seen you all night" Tanaka asked smiling.

Oh that smile. How Ennoshita loved Tanaka's smile, so sweet, so kind.

"O-oh hey Tanaka. W-whats up?" He asked.

'Shit, you stuttered! Why would you stutter? Now he's going to ask what's wrong!' His mind yelled.

"Nothing much, just enjoying the best day of my life." He said with a bright smile. "How about you? You look a little down, are you alright?" He asked putting an arm on Ennoshita's shoulder.

"It's nothing really" Ennoshita said, removing Tanaka's hand from his shoulder. Tanaka knowing something was up and refusing to give up tired again.

"Come on tell me what's wrong. You're not acting like yourself. What's wrong?" He asked again.

"Nothings wrong Tanaka"

"I know somethings bothering you don't deny it"

'Nothing was wrong why wouldn't he listen'

"Drop it Tanaka," Ennoshita said his voice rising.

"No! Tell me what's wrong!" Tanaka yelled. He was worried, worried for his friend who was just pushing him away.

"Fine! You want to know what's wrong!? I'm upset! I'm upset because I just had to sit through a wedding ceremony watching someone I've loved since high school get married to someone else! I'm upset because after all the time people told me that I had a chance, every single time someone said 'you never know' in the end I was right! I was right and now here you are happy with Kiyoko, someone who has said no to your feelings over and over in the past where I was there for you always! I had your back all the time! I had always hoped maybe, just maybe you felt at least something, even the smallest feeling of affection for me...but I guess fantasies never become realities do they?"

He screamed his heart out. At that moment it didn't matter, he didn't care what happened. He just needed to yell, to let all of the emotions that he had kept in for so long out.

Tanaka looked at Ennoshita. He was speechless, he didn't know what to say. He was frozen still.

Ennoshita looked up at Tanaka hoping for maybe even a sound or a movement but he got nothing.

"Haha, can't say anything? I can't blame you really, if I were in your position I would probably do the same." He said bitterly. He set his glass on the small table and turned around walking away. Tanaka still stayed still.

Ennoshita grabbed the handle to the door that leads into the ballroom. He turned back to look at Tanaka one last time and smiled. "Don't get the wrong idea, I'm am happy for you two. I'm just sad about what could've been..."

He then opened the door and walked inside. "Goodbye Ryūnosuke, I will always love you"

Tanaka quickly snapped out of his daze "Wait Chika-" he said only to see Ennoshita was gone.

A tear ran down Tanaka's cheek 'What just happened?' He asked himself as more tears fell.

———————————————————————————————

Ennoshita was not sure how he ended up at a park lake. He was tired and drunk so he wasn't thinking clearly.

His mind was blank, should he call someone? That seemed like the smart choice. He pulled out his phone and chose the first number he saw. Sugawara quickly answered and told him he was on his way.

Ennoshita got up from the park bench and walked around a little bit. he made it to the edge of the pond. The water was so clear you could see yourself.

He got a clear look at himself. His hair was a mess, clothes all wrinkly and he looked exhausted. Tonight should have been a happy night, all ruined by a small stupid crush.

A tear then landed in the water creating a small splash. Ennoshita took notice of this and placed his hand on his cheek, it was wet. He then looked as well as he could at his reflection. He smiled.

'Damn' He thought

"I thought I said I wasn't going to cry tonight," he said.

Sobs could then be heard throughout the park that night

Hi
