A RED CARNATION. That was the single flower he bought for you this week.
He clutched them in his left hand tightly, to the point his knuckles turned white.
The bi-haired boy cleared his throat walking up to the receptionist.
He rubbed the palm of his right hand on his jeans ridding it from the sheen of sweat that covered it only for it to appear once again.
Bokuto Kotaro was nervous.
This wasn't a feeling the ace felt often outside of his emo mode. One word that can describe Bokuto's whole being is confident but right now he was anything but that.
He knew the second he walked into this building his life would change for forever. He didn't just step into the hospital, he stepped into the worst week of his life.
The team captain drummed his fingers on the counter in an attempt to calm his nerves. An attempt rendered useless.
The receptionist looked up from her work staring at him and spoke blandly.
"Room?"
"232."
"Patients name?"
"[Y/n L/n] ma'am."
She slid him a 'VISITOR' card which he took and pinned onto his shirt. Bokuto bowed as a thank you and started his journey to your room.
He didn't need to look anymore, he'd been to Room 232 over a dozen times if he was asked to walk to your room blindfolded he would do it with ease.
After walking for a bit he made it to your room. The young man looked through the little window on the door and smiled at the sight of you reading the book he got you the previous week.
Wiping his palm on his pants one last time (not that it would do anything) he slowly opened the door.
You snapped your head to look his direction and was met with the loving gaze of the light of your life.
"Hey hey hey." He spoke softly afraid that if he spoke in his usual tone you'd shatter like glass.
"Hey Ko" you tilted your head to the side, "Don't you have practice right now?"
He fully walked in smiling at you brightly, "I do. But I decided to take the week off."
You frowned, "Is that really a good id-"
He gently put a finger to your lips, "Ah ah ah don't worry about it. Besides can't I visit my girlfriend in peace?"
You grinned relived that you weren't being a burden to him. "Yeah. Im glad you're here."
He nodded then took a step back. Bowing a perfect 90 degrees, presenting the carnation dramatically. "For you. M'lady"
You giggled placing one hand on your heart using the other to take the flower. "Why thank you."
You smelled the single flower the sweet aroma filling your nose. You closed your eyes and hugged it close to your chest savoring the smell.
"So [Y/n] what have you been doing today?"
Your [e/c] eyes snapped opened, "Not much. Just reading the book you got me. Its quite the epic love."
He chuckled softly, "I knew how much you love romance novels so I picked it up from the bookstore near here."
You raised a loan eyebrow. "There's no bookstore around here."
He sweatdropped, "Okay fine. I went to the neighboring city to get it."
Bokuto didn't mind using up gas just to get a book.
Because it was for you. He would swim through the Pacific Ocean, climb Mount Everest, even walk through the hottest part of hell just for you.
You shook your head knowing what's done is done. "Well thank you anyways. Come sit lets read." You said patting the spot next to you.
He hesitated not wanting to disturb your peace but stalked over to you carefully. Sitting on the side of the bed you cleared for him. The bed sinking slightly at the extra weight added onto it.
Once you were both conformable Bokuto took the book from your grip. "Let me read it to you." He whispered looking in your eyes.
Your eyes glowed with delight and you hummed as a way of saying yes. You put your head on his shoulder and weakly wrapped your arm around his bicep.
He put his head on top of yours and put the novel in the middle of both of you.
"Chapter 6..." He started.
☀︎︎ꕥ꧁꧂ꕥ☀︎︎
He shut the book with a sigh.
"How was i-"
Bokuto started before looking over at you only to see that you were fast asleep. His eyes softened at the sight of you peaceful for once. Thats the only time you every looked peaceful.
Sleeping.
Almost a full year ago you fell ill. Doctors all over Tokyo worked and worked but never could find out what was the cause of your downfall. But they did know your death was near.
In 6 days to be exact.
Bokuto ran his fingers through your [h/c] hair pushing the thoughts of your stopwatch running out into the back of his head.
He already planned to make this the best week of your life even if it would be the hardest week of his.
Bokuto cautiously slipped out of your hospital bed not wanting to wake you and tipped toed over to the side of it. Plucking the single carnation from your grip and putting it in the vase filled with water by your nightstand. Then taking the book and placing it right next to the vase.
He stared at your face. Your cheekbones were now visible, hollowing in but that didn't make you any less beautiful from the first day he laid his eyes on you.
He pulled up the blanket from your ankles covering you all the way to your collarbone. The star ace leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on your forehead.
"I love you [Y/n]." He muttered before walking over to the door and holding the handle. The bi-haired boy looked back at you one last time, smiled and left.
A RED CARNATION. The flower of love.
