The end of third year came all too soon, and this summer Sami would have to go home. She'd spent last summer traveling with Violet, and then at the Weasleys. Her parents had demanded that she spend the first month of holidays at home before she could visit the Burrow. One of the servants was waiting to collect her. He Apparated them to her home, then bowed smartly and went about the rest of his duties. Her parents were waiting in the sitting room, she knew. Before going to see them, she changed into a silver dress, gladiator-style heels that laced up her legs, and a silver rose in her blonde hair. Silver was their family color, since they belonged in all the Hogwarts houses. She then stood up straight, smoothed her hair, took a deep breath, and clicked into the sitting room. Her parents were waiting there with imposing expressions on their faces. "Samantha. You've returned." her father stated. Her mother frowned. "Whatever are you wearing around your wrist?" Sami looked down in surprise. She'd forgotten all about the bracelet the Weasleys had given her for Christmas. It was silver with red and blue charms, representing Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. How had she forgotten to remove it? Her parents expected nothing but perfection, and the bracelet ruined the outfit.
Sami quickly removed the bracelet and gave her parents a flippant little remark, praying they would let it go. She hadn't told them that she was a Ravenclaw, however. Most of her family were Slytherins, and her parents expected the same. "So, daughter," said her father. "Tell us about your studies and your...ahem...friends." The concept of friends wasn't really a familiar one for her family. "I hear that the Malfoy boy was a first year. I'm sure you were an excellent mentor for him?" This came from her mother. Time to admit the truth. "I'm actually a Ravenclaw, and I've befriended Harry Potter and the Weasleys." Her parents gasped. Her father's face was contorted with rage. "Leave, now. You are a disgrace." She grabbed her bags and took the Floo network to the Burrow.
As she tumbled onto the Weasleys' hearth, George, who was chopping vegetables, looked up. "Sami?" he said, quite confused. "What are you doing here? We weren't expecting you for a month! Not that I'm not happy you're here, of course." She sighed. "Long story." George grinned. "I've got time. Everyone else is out. I got in trouble, so I had to stay as punishment." Sami rolled her eyes. "What did you do this time? And where is everybody, out of curiosity?" George grinned. "Pranked Percy the Prefect. Got caught. And everyone is over at the Lovegoods'. There's a girl Ginny's age that lives there, and our parents are close friends. (Luna's mom is alive in this story.) So anyways, tell me." Sami sighed. "Have you ever heard of the Harrison family?" George rolled his eyes. "The famous one, descended from all four Hogwarts founders? Obviously." Sami glared. "It was a rhetorical question. Shut up and listen." She began to tell her tale.
"I'm actually not a Muggle-born. I'm a pureblood, and a Harrison. Yes, of the Harrisons. From a young age, my mother and father expected perfection. I was to wear the finest clothes, and have impeccable manners. When I went to Hogwarts, I must choose Slytherin. Being a Harrison means that you get to pick your House. And under any circumstances, I was never, ever, ever, to befriend a Gryffindor, a blood traitor, Muggle-born, or even a half blood. I should only associate with pure-blooded Slytherins, not that I follow any of these rules. My father also despises Ravenclaws, since many reported him for bullying, beat him out for the top grades, and beat him in Quidditch many times while he was at Hogwarts. So me being a Ravenclaw and befriending you guys, Harry, and Hermione: blood traitors, Gryffindors, Muggle-borns, and half-bloods, was a big shock to them. They kicked me out and basically disowned me, not that I care."
George whistled. "No wonder you are the way you are. I'd always wondered how a Ravenclaw got into playing pranks-" "Because of you," she reminded him. "-why you befriended all us Gryffindors, and why you're wearing that." Sami looked at her clothes and realized that she was still wearing her silver dress and heels. George stammered. "I-i mean n-not that you look b-bad or anything, you look really, really g-great, just different from u-usual-" The rest of his family entered through the front door. Something on their faces told them that they'd heard her story. Mrs. Weasley hugged her. "Oh, Sami, I'm so sorry. Feel free to come stay any holidays with us." "Thanks, Mrs. Weasley," said Sami, smiling gratefully. She noticed Hermione talking with Ginny. "Oh, Hermione, hello! You look great!" The two girls embraced and after Sami had hugged everyone else, she, Hermione, and Ginny went up to the room they were going to share to chat. After a lively dinner and spending the evening catching up with the Weasleys, Sami went to bed. In the middle of the night, she got up to get a drink of water and found the twins and Ron sneaking out. "Going somewhere?" she asked archly. "To get Harry," Ron explained. "He wrote and he's locked in his room and his aunt and uncle won't let him come to school in the fall." Ah. Well, Sami couldn't pass up an adventure. "Let's go, then." George shook his head. "Mum'll be livid. She'll kill us, but Harry will at least get out of there. I'm not going to let you get in trouble. She basically adopted you, so she will kill you too." "But-" she started to fight, and George laid his hand on my arm. "Sami, please. For me?" Looking into his earnest face, she had to give in. "All right. But if anything happens, I'll kill you, then hand you over to your mum to be skinned alive."
The boys hurried out of the house. Sami went back to bed. In the morning, she was woken up by shrieking. "IRRESPONSIBLE! CAR GONE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT! YOU WERE RAISED BETTER THAN THAT! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? Oh, hello, Harry. You're so skinny! Eat some breakfast." The girls all yawned and headed downstairs. Mrs. Weasley addressed the twins and Ron. "You lot can de-gnome the garden along with your other chores today. Harry, Hermione, Sami, no need to do anything. In fact, why don't you three-to Fred, George, and Ron-do Ginny and Percy's chores today, it will give you a good long time to think about your behavior."
The summer passed, and Sami was sad to see it go. But with the end of the summer holidays came fall-and the start of a new school year. Time to go to Hogwarts. Time for new adventures with her best friends.
