Chapter Five

"Firs' years! Firs' years over here! All righ' there, Harry?" The familiar voice of Rubeus Hagrid greeted Sami and her friends as they stepped off the Hogwarts Express. The stares were the same. They happened every year, this year with added ones because of Harry. Many were staring at Sami-the Ravenclaw among Gryffindors, walking with Harry Potter, no less. Someone *cough Draco cough* had heard them discussing Sami's true heritage on the train, and now everyone was whispering about the Mudblood turned pureblood-who was expected to be a Slytherin, now a Ravenclaw and gossiping with Gryffindors. But Sami honestly didn't think Ravenclaw was a fit for her. She hadn't been expecting to ever have friends when she chose her house. She'd been wanting to spite her father. If she could do it over, she would pick Gryffindor, so that she could sit with her friends at meals and in the common room. That was why she wanted to speak to Dumbledore the next morning before classes.

In the morning, Sami made her way to the headmaster's office. "Bertie Botts," she said to the statue, which then let her in. Dumbledore was waiting. "Ah, Miss Samantha Harrison," he said. "I have a feeling I know what you wish for. But I want to know why you truly think another House would be better for you." Sami sighed. "When I entered Hogwarts, I wasn't expecting friends. I also wanted to irritate my father. I don't feel that I have the virtues necessary to be a true Ravenclaw student. Not like if I had been really sorted.But now I know that I belong in Gryffindor, where I have true friends and fit the profile." Dumbledore smiled, and remarked, "I heard how you defied your parents this summer. Impressive. Let's allow the Sorting Hat to decide, perhaps?" And so the hat was placed on her head. 

Hmm...

said the Sorting hat inside her head.

Wishing to be a Gryffindor this time, eh? Well, you'll be a perfect one.

"Gryffindor it is!" The hat cried. Dumbledore smiled, and changed her robes to red instead of blue. "Fourth-year Gryffindor dormitory. Password to the common room is wattlebird. Off you go!" Sami hurried to the Gryffindor Tower with a huge grin. Many did a double take seeing her in the robes of another House. Violet saw her and knew. "You switched, didn't you?" Sami sighed. "Yes, the House wasn't a good fit. I finally decided after standing up to my parents and revealing my heritage." Violet smiled. "Congrats! I know you'll be a great Gryffindor." The two girls parted, and Sami continued on her way. After making it in, everyone in the common room stopped and stared. The twins grinned. "Oi, Sami!" called George. "Finally realized that it was time to leave those boring Ravenclaws?" She rolled her eyes and went to join her friends. Ginny squealed. "Both of my best friends are Gryffindors now!" She, Hermione, and Sami chatted until it was almost time to go to bed. Hermione stopped her from heading up the stairs. "Not so fast. I think someone wants to talk to you." Suddenly the room was empty except for her and George. He moved toward her. "Sami, I want to get this off my chest. I've been wanting to tell you for years." "What is it, George?" Sami asked. "You know you can tell me anything." George took a deep breath. "Samantha Harrison, I'm in love with you."
