"Jace, the Consul has agreed to help, he has agreed to my request that the Clave assist us, what more can you want?"

Maryse was looking at Jace with confusion in her eyes, he didn't know how she didn't get it. "Maryse, when I was bound to Sebastian, Clary came with us and did everything she could to break the bond. She came and she saw me, she saw our link. She lived with us, pretended that she was on our side, to help me. Clary didn't sit back and watch the Clave screw everything up, she didn't let them punish me and let's face it, you know they wanted to. I've always felt like I owed her my life after that, Clary is my life. I love her, and I'm not going to sit back and watch the Clave make no attempt to actually do anything!"

For a long moment, Maryse was silent. It was on she and Jace in the library and the silence pierced his ears. "I know you love her," she said. "By the Angel, we all know you love her, it isn't hard to see. And we all know that she loves you, she wouldn't have done what she did if she didn't. But it is not my decision, Jace. I am not the Consul, my position in the Clave is as complicated as it is. I know that the Consul has a disliking to you and the rest of us, but I am sure that he is a good enough Shadowhunter to see that one of his own needs his help."

Jace raked a hand through his hair making it messier than it already was. "Maryse, you don't know that Sebastian won't hurt her, or do something to her." Jace said.

Maryse gave him a sad look. "I know that we know nothing, we do not know how to trace Sebastian or Clary. But the Clave will try their hardest to locate her."

It wasn't good enough, nothing from the Clave was ever good enough. Not the Inquistor's or the Consul or their rules. Nothing. Jace tried once more to get permission, "Maryse, I know Sebastian, I was connected to him. I know how his mind works, I can help."

"Jace, enough, I've told you why you can't help and you know what will happen. I'm leaving with Jocelyn and Lucian in a short while, Robert will be returning and watching over you children, do not think of doing anything," Maryse warned.

"I am not a child," Jace said. Maryse gave a small grin. "Yes, you are, you are not yet eighteen so you are not an adult. I mean it Jace, you are to do nothing. Do not go against the Clave,"
