The Hidden Room

Lilac sat awkwardly in Newt's house, trying not to give anything signs that she actually knew him or Tina. Tina and Newt had left to talk for a little bit, leaving Lilac alone in the sitting room. She eventually stood up and looked at the bookshelf; which held a copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but what caught her attention was actually a copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Lilac picked it up off the shelf and flipped to the inside cover. Sure enough, there was a written note in the margins that read:

'Newton~

I hope you find this enjoyable. Happy birthday!

Mother'

Lilac smiled and replaced it on the shelf. It was the copy that he read to them whenever Lilac and her family visited Dorset. She sat back down on the couch as Newt and Tina emerged from the basement.

"Where was the last place you were before you touched the spinning wheel, Jane?" Newt asked.

Lilac looked up at them "Hogwarts."

Newt looked at Tina "I guess we're going back to Hogwarts."

The three walked out and apparated to the bridge, where they started heading towards the castle. Lilac started to panic. She knew she wouldn't be walking into the same castle she was used to. It was going to be different.

The doors opened as a bell chimed. Students flooded the corridors. The three of them slid into the shadows. But, a young Professor McGonagall noticed them and approached them.

"Mr. Scamander? What are you doing here?" she asked.

He turned pink "Um, there's a slight problem and we need to see Professor Dumbledore."

'Professor Dumbledore! Of course! He's alive in this time period!' she always admired Professor Dumbledore from the stories her parents told her and her brothers. Every once in a while, Harry would visit them and sometimes told them about what Dumbledore was like. He apparently got very loopy in his old age.

Professor McGonagall lead them to Dumbledore's classroom. He was good-looking in his middle age with auburn hair and blue eyes.

"Newt. To what do I owe the pleasure?"

Newt walked forward a tiny bit "We've got a bit of a time problem." he turned around "Jane is stuck in the past."

Lilac walked forward slowly and looked at Dumbledore "I'm from far into the future. 2022, to be exact."

Dumbledore nodded "May I talk to you in the hall for a moment, Jane?" Lilac followed Dumbledore out into the corridor. He shut the door and whispered "Your name's not Jane."

Lilac stumbled backward in surprise "How did you know?"

Dumbledore gave her a cheeky smile "I myself have lied about who I am to get help. Though, for me it's a bit harder, because a lot of know who I am."

Lilac chuckled "Believe that won't change after your...." Lilac clapped her hand over her mouth.

"Ah. Were you going to say that I'm dead?" Dumbledore chuckled.

Lilac brought her hand down from her mouth "Yeah. My parents talk quite a bit about. Obviously, when they were in school in the 90's."

Dumbledore laughed "So, why'd you lie about your identity to them?" he jerked his thumb in the direction of the closed door.

Lilac shifted on her feet "Um, they're my great grandparents."

Dumbledore gave her a smile "Well, I'll tell you what. I won't mention that to them." Lilac smiled. Dumbledore looked at her more severely "But, how did you get here?"

Lilac gulped "My brother and I found a hidden room in the school with nothing in it, but a spinning wheel and table. But it may not be there in this time period, because they had to rebuild Hogwarts after a war in 1998."

Dumbledore nodded and smiled "Do you think you could try and find it again? Maybe it is here."

Lilac nodded slowly. He opened the door again and beckoned for Newt and Tina to follow her. Lilac headed down towards where  the Hufflepuff common room is known to be; right next to the fruit painting leading to the kitchens.

Lilac tickled the pear; which let out a giggle and Lilac turned the door handle, clambering inside the kitchens. House elves crowded around at their feet. Lilac didn't have time for this, so she batted them away with her hands.

"No! Go away! Not right now!" she said, exasperatedly.

Professor Dumbledore, Newt, and Tina followed Lilac through the kitchens, passing identical tables to the ones in the Great Hall above. They were stopped temporarily when a Gryffindor student walked out from around the corner; his arms filled with pastries.

Dumbledore looked down at him; a smirk on his face "Get back to Gryffindor tower, McLaggen."

The boy scrambled out of the kitchens and Lilac almost lost the others as she touched the corner of the middle brick and a portion of the wall flew open. Inside was more things than the last time she saw it. There was the spinning wheel, but it was in better condition. The table  was there, but this time it was complete with four chairs. A bed sat in the corner, perfectly made. A nightstand stood next to it with a lamp. The light from it was lighting the entire room and a rug lay in the floor.

But there was one thing that was off. There was an occupant in the room, Lilac could sense it. She walked into the room, Dumbledore, Newt, and Tina followed close behind. Lilac looked up at the ceiling; feeling the oddness of the room when her neck hairs stood up.

She touched the back of her neck just as Tina did the same. Lilac knew that she'd inherited this trait from Tina, but it didn't always work. If it did, Lilac would still be in her time period, doing her homework, not doing whatever this was.

Lilac suddenly felt a hand on her ankle and she withdrew her wand, pointing it down.

She shouted "Stupefy!" and the stunned figure of a young woman with dark hair lay on the ground. Lilac knew from stories her great grandparents told that her name was Nagini and there was even a picture of a group with Nagini among them.

Lilac felt terrible, but she got jumpy and when she was scared, she acted before thinking. It was something, she has been told plenty, she'd inherited from her nana again.

"I'm sorry. I acted without thinking, Professor." Lilac said as Dumbledore unstunned Nagini.

He looked at Lilac "It's alright-" he winked at her "-Jane."
